Town Centre Signs

Signs are everywhere, telling us what we can and cannot do, where to go, what to pay. But how many do you actually notice and digest? And do they make good photographic subjects? These 6 different signs form the last part of my local high street series.

One thing that comes to mind about these photos. You need to think about the format they will be viewed in. I would imagine they look quite acceptable when printed in an 8x10 form, but on my computer monitor, they come across as maybe 3x5. The only ones I can read all the writing on are the last 2. Since I suppose a part of the reason you were posting the signage is for the message they proclaim, would it not be a good idea for them to be able to be read? I have no idea what the one with the bird is about. Don't eat the pigeons maybe...
I'm not really bringing this up as a criticism per se (because I like the idea of the pictures), but as something else for everybody to consider when displaying their work.

Good point Ed. I'm limited to 400x300 pixels by the site layout - if the images are any bigger the site gets too wide. This obviously suits some photos more than others...
I might start posting larger versions in the PhotographyBLOG Gallery, and linking to them from the main page. I'll give it a try today.

Mark,
This is my personal favorite for photographic subjects. I have spent the past three years obsessively documenting 'vernacular typography.' So far I have over 3000 photos... all from the US but I am hoping to make it overseas and start documentation there as well. Hopefully I will get my website (http://www.vernaculartype.com) up and running this summer. I will be sure to keep you posted... and perhaps you can be a featured artist there if you are interested.
Best,
B.
