UK Students Asked to Design, Produce & Market Photo Related Products

Engineering students in the Newcastle and Kidsgrove District have been asked to design, produce and market a photography-related product. Once complete, the products will be assessed by Newcastle-under-Lyme College and JP Service Solutions (JPSS) for their engineering and commercial viability. JPSS have extended their support to the students by setting up a dedicated email address that the students can contact the team on should they have any queries during their time on the course.

Imaging Industry Service Provider helps train Students to Provide Engineers of the Future

Students asked to design, produce and market a photo / imaging related product.

Newcastle-under-Lyne, 25th November 2009, An industry imaging service provider is working together with their local college and schools to provide hands-on experience for local school pupils as part of their studies. .

JP Service Solutions (JPSS), part of Newcastle-under-Lyme based Johnsons Photopia Ltd and Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) are working in partnerships with Clough Hall Technology School and St. John Fisher Catholic College to provide ‘hands on’ workshops and tasks as part of the new 14-19 Engineering Diploma. 

Roger Sharman Lead for the Engineering Diploma in the district said: “The district and JSPP have all been working together to help develop future generations of skilled engineers. The course is highly engaging and provides a good foundation for a university path”.

The Engineering students, as part of their time at JPSS, have been asked to design, produce and market a photo / imaging related product.  Once complete, the products will be assessed by NULC and JPSS for their engineering and commercial viability.

He continues:” The support of local employers and partner organisations is vital to ensure our students can experience engineering challenges presented in realistic scenarios the course and the work placements are highly engaging and provides a good foundation for a university path”.

There are currently four Diplomas available in the Newcastle and Kidsgrove District each one giving the student a clear insight into the chosen industry or employment sector. From 2010 there will be further four on offer: Construction & the Built Environment, Hospitality, Hair & Beauty Studies and Sport & Active Leisure

David Harper, Operations Director and owner partner at JPSS said: “We have a long history with local education in particular NULC.  We have now extended this link to our schools and have been massively encouraged by enthusiasm of both students and teaching staff.

He continues; “The JPSS team, most of who have been educated in the North Staffordshire area are really looking forward to providing active support to the schools in the area.”

The Diploma is part of the Government’s reforms to education for 14 to 19-year-olds that are designed to encourage young people to continue learning for longer and gain the qualifications they need to progress into further and higher education or employment.
