Velapp for iPhone

Velapp is a new iOS app that allows you to edit your iPhone videos on the fly, taking advantage of Apple's 3D Touch technology.. While filming, users press on the screen to mark the moments they believe are the best. This assigns the frames a rating between 0-10. The harder the press, the higher the number assigned. Once they’ve finished recording, Velapp’s technology automatically pulls together the highest-rated scenes into edited footage and users can then choose how much of it to play back and export. Velapp is available in a free version, which creates watermarked videos each with a one-minute maximum, or a £1.99 paid-for version that removes the watermark and offers exports of any length.

A video-recording app is set to transform the way people film using smartphones and tablets - by automatically editing the footage as they shoot.
Velapp takes full advantage of the iPhone’s 3D Touch technology to create final videos that can be shared as soon as they are shot. While filming, users press on the screen to mark the moments they believe are the best. This assigns the frames a rating between 0-10. The harder the press, the higher the number assigned.
Once you’ve finished recording, Velapp’s technology automatically pulls together the highest-rated scenes into edited footage and users can then choose how much of it to play back and export.

Velapp – the beginning of which stands for Video Editing Live - has already been shown off to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who admired its simplicity. It is available in a free version, which creates watermarked videos each with a one-minute maximum, or a £1.99 paid-for version that removes the watermark and offers exports of any length.
The 3D Touch capabilities work on the iPhone 6S and 7 while for all other Apple devices, there is a slider button that can be moved up and down during filming to mark footage with the Velapp ratings.
Founder David de Min, 26 from Kent, says: “The idea came during a motorbike trip across India with my brother. I came back with hundreds of hours of footage that took weeks to edit.
“I could still visualise the best memories but had to look through everything to find them. Velapp takes away that effort because you can now pick out the most exciting, exhilarating and interesting scenes as you film. All with just a touch.”
David adds: “While there are many videos editing apps out there, some with tens of millions of downloads, Velapp is the first of its kind to edit video WHILE recording.
“That’s what makes Velapp different and why we believe it could become a default part of the video-recording experience on a smartphone or tablet in the future.
“I was lucky enough to meet Apple co-founder Steve ‘Woz’ Wozniak at an event where I showed him Velapp. When you tell people the unique feature, some don’t see what is possible. When you show them, they have a lightbulb moment. It was great having someone like Woz appreciate it and humbling to get feedback from such a legend.”
Velapp is aimed at anyone who wants to shoot and then share short and snappy videos packed full of the best moments they’ve filmed without the hassle of time-consuming editing. It has already received praise from people who have used it to capture extreme sports, magic moments of their children and to film fashion shows.
David is now working on future iterations of the Velapp app while beginning an initial investment round. To-date the app has been funded with his own money as well as through a Small Business loan from Kent County Council and investment from family and friends. David also met with film producers and professionals from the creative video industry who remarked how it was going to ‘kill their industry’. One went on to invest in it.
