Which DSLR Removes Dust Best?

Mark Goldstein | Digital SLR Cameras | March 21, 2007 | 3 Comments

Olympus E-300Pixinfo.com have reviewed the dust removal systems of 4 recent DSLR cameras - the Canon EOS 400D, Sony A100, Olympus E-300 and Pentax K10D.

“Our goal was to set up a controlled environment to get the image sensors of digital cameras dirty and test how effective the different cameras’ sensor cleaning technologies are. It is well known fact (and it is a bit over dramatized) that digital SLR cameras are very sensitive to the dust particles found in the air. These particles can settle on the image sensor, and will show up on the images as dark spots when the image is taken with a small aperture (high F number).”

Each and every recent review, including the one in the Chasseur d'Images March issue, the one in the German fotoMAGAZIN April issue and now this one over at pixinfo.com have reached the same conclusion: the Olympus solution works, the others do not.

It is a sad thing; I really wanted the K10D - or its sibling the GX10 - to come with a reliable sensor dust buster.

I know of no photographer who would rely just on a dust blower (read dust mover) to effectively clean their sensor.
I would have used the Sensor Brush from Visible Dust to remove the dust as opposed to just moving it around inside the camera.
Also, if the cameras used were the same ones handed out time after time to reviewers then the dust build up would have been considerable.

just wondering here...is there a chance that dust particles might still infiltrate the camera sensor chamber even if one does not remove the lens from a DSLR for the entire duration of the camera's lifespan ?
