It is not clear if I have entered for the competition successfully or not.

#12 vauve

You are right, Liam ! We don't get any feedback from the entering; a very unclear system.

Facebook sucks. It's so silly that registration to that Orwellian site is necessary to enter a simple competition.

8:21 pm - Sunday, July 20, 2014

#14 dan

Jack S - You don't need to give them your Facebook details, just sign up for the newsletter.

But I agree, it's not a very good way to run a competition. The PB staff don't seem to want to comment at all which is a shame as there seems to be a lot of confusion and anger about this.

Maybe they can post a 'How to' guide?

11:53 am - Monday, July 21, 2014

#15 Mark Goldstein

Just to clarify...

You have to subscribe to the CameraWorld newsletter to enter the contest (if you don't like it, you can unsubscribe at any time).

You can then optionally like the CameraWorld and Photography Blog Facebook pages and follow the CameraWorld and Photography Blog Twitter feeds to effectively gain more chances to win.

Finally, you can refer up to 10 friends via Twitter or Facebook, gaining an additional entry for each one.

So you could make 15 entries in total if you did everything detailed above.

We use a service called Rafflecopter to run the contest - they do not hold your email addresses or any other personal information.

Note that we've always required entrants to agree to subscribe to the Photography Blog newsletter in all of our non-Rafflecopter contests.

#16 dan

I think it's all this 'add you friends via Facebook' rubbish that is getting peoples backs up.

Ive get no problem having to subscribe to a newsletter as that's part of the competition, you get a prize to give out and the sponsoring company gets advertising.

But this thing just feels like a doggy phone app! I kind of expect it to have a pop up that tells me I can purchase more entries for $5.99!

It's a fake contest. Last time they gave away an X-T1, nobody won it. Don't get fooled by them. They just want you to subscribe to their newsletter for free.

3:19 pm - Friday, July 25, 2014

#28 dan

Johnny - Its the same competition!

6:18 pm - Friday, July 25, 2014

I expect the winner to be posted in a newsletter.

If a company runs a competition then is required to give away the advertised prize. If you're not happy about it then don't enter, gives me more of a chance.

8:03 pm - Friday, July 25, 2014

#31 Joe Prete

William is right, they do need to have a winner. If that winner can't be found, or is found to be ineligible (like an employee), it would go to the next in line. They also have to announce the winners name, and I assume a release to post his or her name is in the small print. They should post the winners name, wherever they entered. The amount of people they add to their list of newsletter recipients far outweighs their cost of the prize. Getting and keeping names on their list of newsletter recipients is their main goal. It's also another form of advertisement for Camera World, and Photographyblog.

I'm a customer of CameraWorld and can vouch for them as good guys to deal with.

But I have no intention of ever joining Facebook.

Stange how a website designed for America's social elite (Harvard Alumni) has fallen to the lowest common denominator of social media and yet is considered a success.

I am honestly not trying to stir up trouble. But has anyone noticed an increase in spam after signing up for this? May be just coincidence but I never got any spam but the day after I signed up for this suddenly I got 3 of them not picked up by the spam filter (Crappy fashion bags!). As I said probably has nothing to do with this but I am just curious.

Is the number of entries correct! Wow might as well go back to doing the Lotto I probably have a better chance of winning :)

5:28 pm - Saturday, August 16, 2014

#43 Joe Prete

Yes, it is 228,414 BUT, Someone has to win, and like the lottery, you won't have any chance if you don't enter. I wouldn't get it if I did win, so things could be worse! Hope I didn't jinx myself. I will certainly talk to Mark about that, I think there should be more prizes, and maybe a contest that would pick the best pictures, would be more appropriate. I'll see what I can do. Good Luck!

Unusually high number of entries for a prize like this. Has someone manipulated your system?

1:16 pm - Sunday, August 17, 2014

#45 John Mcgovern

In regards to Joes comments about a photo contest is that those that are likely to win are those who are either professional or who already have very good camera's. Those of us that desperatly need good camera's would feel excluded as are chances are slim.

1:20 pm - Sunday, August 17, 2014

#46 Joe Prete

I was already a subscriber, so it never even went through, but even if it did, I am sure I would be excluded. I wouldn't accept it anyhow and I already wrote Mark about the comments here. Please wait for him to come to work, to address the issue. I'm not sure if the count is the entrants or the combined count through that complicated way of adding extra points. I did share with Mark, some ideas about the kind of contest that would have more prizes for different levels of Winners. I personally think a Photo contest would be appropriate.
I have been an advocate for the commenters, and I let management know about complaints that they may not be aware of, and I try to help those people that ask for it. I am not a paid employee here, I am an Independent Photographer/Reviewer and I have helped many readers on my own time. Years ago, we did that through Camera Clubs, today we have the internet. I'm glad that this site is not owned by any Retailer and the Reviewers are very impartial. Nobody can please everyone, but that is where the feedback comes in. You get to express your own opinion. John, I assure you, I will discuss this with Mark, First thing Monday and I will pursue the idea that another format would be a better contest for the readers. Btw, I am a Die Hard Nikon shooter, and I have Panasonic & Canon Compact cameras. Every one Purchased, just like the readers. … Joe Prete

I thought maybe the competition was advertised on multiple websites. Just glad to see this site is getting that number of visits.

#48 Derek Crane

The only fair way to run a competition is - one entry per person. Others manage to do it.
I don't use Facebook, I don't understand Facebook nor want to and there are too many competitions that are closed to interested persons because they are fed up with hearing about facebook, twitter etc.

4:08 pm - Monday, August 18, 2014

#49 dan

Have to agree about the loosing a chance to win because you have to use Facebook!

I don't just mean this competition, I have noticed a lot of competitions now need you to use Facebook. It's a worrying trend.
