X-Rite Announce Their Debut Attendance at IBC
Birmingham, UK, 30th June 2016 – XP Distribution, the specialist distributor for X-Rite’s range of colour management products aimed at the photographic and video markets, has today announced their debut attendance at IBC 2016. IBC is the premier annual event for filmmaking professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of entertainment and news content worldwide.
In November 2015, X-Rite launched their first ever ColorChecker products designed solely for filmmakers and videographers, the X-Rite ColorChecker Video and the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport Video . These new products continue X-Rite’s ongoing support for filmmaking professionals, with the i1Display Pro monitor calibrator already supporting broadcast video standards – NTSC, PAL SECAM, and Rec. 709. The i1Profiler software will also be adding support for Rec. 2020 and DCI P3 video standards this summer.
X-Rite will be on Stand LP8, in Hall 9 at IBC, RAI Amsterdam from the 9th 13th September 2016.
Photographers and filmmakers have been utilising the X-Rite ColorChecker Classic for 40 years now, using it as a standard colour reference for their work. Building on this trusted resource, the X-Rite ColorChecker Video targets have been designed to better meet the needs of filmmakers, with the new charts featuring a colour range and design layout specifically tuned to video production, making them simple to use with waveform monitors and vectorscopes for achieving ideal exposure and colour balance.
Video ColorCheckers give filmmakers better control over their colour.
Andrew Hutcheson Filmmaker

Since the launch of ColorChecker Video and ColorChecker Passport Video, X-Rite has been engaging with filmmaking professionals and post-production software companies alike to ensure that the filmmakers can benefit from accurate colour from capture through post, saving editors and colourists significant time. X-Rite has already announced 3 rd party software support with DaVinci Resolve, Color Finale, and 3D LUT Creator, and display calibration partnerships with Atomos and Small HD. These partnerships make it easier for filmmakers to get the results they want, quickly.
“X-Rite has been educating photographers for many years on the benefits of controlling colour throughout their workflow, and we know we have the same task with filmmakers, “ commented Liz Quinlisk, Marketing Director, Photo and Video at X-Rite.
“We’re committed to giving as many filmmakers as possible the control they need over their colour, whether onscreen, at camera, or in postproduction, and making that process as simple as we can. Our attendance at IBC is about engaging with and further educating a larger number of filmmakers.”

ColorChecker Passport Video
ColorChecker Passport Video delivers all-in-one pocket-sized convenience in a rugged hard case with four different targets:
- A colour reference for evaluating specific chromatic colours aligned with video production, including skin tones, grey balance and highlights and shadows.
- White balance for creating a consistent neutral white point, eliminating the need to correct each frame later.
- A three-step greyscale target that includes white highlight, 40 IRE midtone grey and saturated black references. A focus target that facilitates centre and edge focus.
ColorChecker Video
ColorChecker Video ’s larger format is great for camera checks and for wider shots, both in studio and on location. This two-sided target includes:
- Two series of grey scale patches: seven smaller patches for even grey balance with extra steps close to the highlight and shadow regions, and four larger grey level rectangles including a high gloss black that are easily recognised by the camera.
- A range of skin tone patches from light to dark along the outer edge for easy alignment.
- A series of saturated and desaturated chromatic colours allowing for appropriate colour and saturation adjustments. A full size white balance target on the reverse side.
