Any chance of getting raws? After all Adobe Camera Raw 8.4 will open G1 X II raws.

The above with deep shadows look particularly appealing for the purposes of demonstrating the raw capacities of this Canon.

Just high ISO Samples? And just in the Darkness? Useless…

Same question about raws as last week.

Early word was this camera was a high-iso wunderkind (for it’s size), but these examples prove otherwise.

Maybe the in-camera JPEG compression is lacking, and the RAWs are remarkably better, but if not this seems to be a minor advancement over Sony’s 1” sensor compacts.

form factor and step-up improvement of this 2nd iteration of the GX has piqued my interest, looking with anticipation to your full revue.

arthro:

Imaging-Resource has some raws for download, but no with this extreme shadowing.

Jay, I’ll do that because look at all the JPEG artifacting on this shot:

http://img.photographyblog.com/reviews/canon_powershot_g1_x_mk_ii/photos/canon_powershot_g1_x_mk_ii_48.jpg

Halos, glowing, contrast issues, etc… I mean that stalk should be tack sharp at 1/2000, ISO 100 , close to F4 and instead the detail is all smeared away!!!

Really ugly stuff there, and I’m not typically a pixel peeper.

I’m a little bit disapointed about the quality in low light situations with ISO 3200. And the quality is from image to image different. The sharpness is different too from image to image. But it’s still one of my favourite new Cams in 2014.

Most of the comments in the digital press, from the peanut gallery of otherwise, that focus on sensor size to the exclusion of everything else fall short. To review the prose, you would think APS-C is a synonym for large and that four-thirds is a synonym for small, neither of which is true or imbued with perspective. Two things about this camera are advantageous, the fairly bright lens and a sensor that is NOT small. This combination is new brew, and it could be quite good. Sony is plowing the furrows here too. If the firmware is spot on, this most recent formulation could be potent. You may fairly assume that Canon is exploiting a gap in the Micro-Four-Thirds’ lineup of lenses, otherwise, we’d have no story at all because the size of the sensor is very close and may not actually be as good as the Sony-sourced sensor in the OM-D’s or the new Panny sensor in the GH4. They are dynamite. Canon’s entry would be a bargain just for the lens. You get the camera free.
