The first thing I noticed is that these photos are devoid of chromatic aberrations and geometric distortion, which is good for a fixed-lens compact camera. Resolution seems good at all focal lengths, but I can’t help noticing some noise appearing in darker areas, even at low ISO, and there is a large amount of moiré in the tunnel picture, but the latter could have to do with the reduction in file size for uploading, so I can’t make a definite judgement on this. Also, colours look slightly bleached, which can nonetheless be easily corrected in post-production.
All in all, This camera raises a question: why didn’t camera manufacturers think of this before? A large sensor in a compact camera is not only feasible, but it also produces good results. Looks like Sigma were right after all…

Strangely for such a hyped up camera, the Photoblog “standard shots” of the gherkin etc (shots 24 and 25) across the Thames look strangely washed out. Yes, it’s winter, but that’s the same season as the Fuji X100 review. In fact, none of the colours look particularly bright. Doesn’t thrill me yet!

Chris,
Your comparison of shot 24 taken with the G1X and the same scene taken with the Fuji X100 is not valid…period. Look at them. The Fuji shot was taken on a day that was much brighter and had blue skies, making the colors on the buildings more colorful. This one, taken with the G1X is highly overcast and ANYTHING taken on this kind of day will look “bleached.” What about the other photos, you know, the ones that have nice, bright colors in them? Geez, give me a break…and, no I am NOT a Canon loyalist…just someone who tries to look at things realistically.
