Ahead of our full review, here are 53 sample JPEG photos and a 1080p movie taken with a final production version of the new Nikon D5200 DSLR camera, including the full ISO range.
The Nikon D5200 is a 24.1 megapixel APS-C DSLR camera featuring a new EXPEED 3 image processor, ISO range of 100-6400 which is extendable to 25600, 3-inch vari-angle LCD monitor, Fulll 1080p HD movies, 5fps burst shooting, 39-point AF system, 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor, the Scene Recognition System and a new generation GUI Design.

What, a few 24 mega pixel images with blown out highlights. No thanks.
CAMERA MAKERS: Instead of stuffing more and more pixels into a sensor, please do something about the low dynamic range. OK, so it is painfully and slowly getting better, but it is something that should have been sorted years ago. (I exclude Fuji because they have already sorted this with the X100)
FIX!!!!
Yeah! and you DON’T need bloody 24 bloody megapixels.

The D800 has 14 stops DR, sensor made by Sony
if you will learn something go to http://www.sensorgen.info
and read about DR, QE FWC etc etc
and the old Fuji X100 has the same sensor as in Nikon D90, made by Sony

Is there something wrong with the camera or the lens? As an owner of d5000 I was expecting much better quality from such a new camera. Photos taken with iso 800 and up lack vibrance and contrast to my eye, and they are quite noisy. There are a lot of blown highlights, and the lens seems terribly uanble to resolve high detail from base iso. In 100% zoom photos look blurry, and chromatic aberrations appear

A lot more purple fringing in high contrast situations than I would have expected of a camera in this price range. Quite frankly my bridge camera returns better results. Colour me not impressed!

I agree with mihalakis . I was looking at maybe buying the D5200, but if the picture quality is this bad I will look elsewhere.

Those of you expecting brighter more vibrant images need to take into account the weather and lighting.
Hint: The weather looks pretty dreary.

Ben. Dreary weather is not the cause of excessive chromatic aberrations. Also if you had paid close attention several of the pics show blue sky! Duh!
