Holy smokes… the DR on that thing… Can someone confirm with my amateur experience that the backlit cloud picture is quite amazing in terms of dynamic range? Or is that what I can expect with most other FFs on the market?

It’s interesting that there are dust spots on the raw files.    I took my new D600 back to the shop after I found dust spots were visible on the images when it was straight out of the box.    The shop changed my D600 for another one and this was just as bad.
So Nikon whats going on with the dust ?
Other than that the camera performed well although I did find that the images taken outside with a bright blue sky were a little noisy when sharpened slightly and viewed at 100% - I was using a 28-300mm VR IS lens.
I’m still sat on the fence with this camera.

Loved the photo’s I counted 19 oil spots when shot at f16 at f8 could only see 8.  I sent mine back and will wait for the second run of this otherwise wonderful camera.

I thought I would post a follow up to my original post on 25th September when I had mentioned dust on the photographs above and dust on my own D600’s sensor.
It would now appear that what I had originally thought was dust is in fact oil from the shutter box.
What I wanted to report is that after about 200 shots the problem seems to have stopped with the sensor now staying clean.
This problem is not only found on the D600, I understand that the D800/800e have both suffered the same problem, so what’s going on ?  I’m lucky because I am able to clean the sensor myself but if you can’t do this or are too scared to do it, then it would be very expensive to keep getting the sensor cleaned.
Surely the maker of this part could put either less oil on it in the first place or at least operate it outside of the camera body for several hundred movements in order to avoid fitting it to the camera and causing this unnecessary problem.
On an upside, this is a great camera with stunning image quality and being a stock photographer myself I have achieved 100% acceptance of my submitted images taken with the D600.  That’s the best ever, so its not all bad !
