ISO performance is so/so, but that’s a Panasonic trait, more noise and detail as opposed to aggressive noise reduction. The lens looks like a great performer though, and the marco DoF looks amazing for this size of chip. Tele DoF is less than I was expecting, but there weren’t really any long portraits or anything to check that. Its interesting, the rumor is that this is actually a Sony made chip and if so it shows. Not hearing that rumor I would say it has a Sony quality to it. Very saturated and bright, as opposed to the more natural, muted color pallet we are used to with panasonic. I will tell you though, this is as much camera as most people need. Looks great.

Well there goes the hopes that this could complete with the RX100 somehow. They look good, but really not much of an improvement over the previous LX.

Hi,
How about a side by side test of LX5 vs LX7 to find out any noticeable improvements to performance, handling, image quality etc ?
I’m interested as the LX5 is on my ‘wish list’ and if the LX7 is not a significant step up then the cost of an LX5 can be considered as something of a bargain being an ‘older’ model.

Noise performance is so so?
Hei do not forgrt the sensor size….is a little bit smaller than lx3-5 I’ve an s95 canon and I’m impressed of ISO performance.
I do not like the color as well, but can be a very interesting camera for carring everywere (Sony rx100 is a good performer too)

I don’t like these samples at all. A number seem to be over exposed with white washed out skies. Is this just careless metering on the behalf of the user or a real-life example of the camera’s actual metering? Either way, the samples would put me off big time, very poor indeed.
I recently purchased the Sony HX20v and 400 test pics later, I find my ‘samples’ from the Sony are better than these.
It would be nice if you (this site) had some standard outside real life scenes so us prospective purchasers can compare a camera’s metering, colour, noise, resolution etc.

High ISO is not this camera best quality. Highlights are washed out and not a low light performer. I’ll past.

Have just taken Lx& out for a run having traded up my Lux5. I am impressed with significant noise reduction instant response (Lux5/Lx% had shutter delay) and great light sensitivity. Best of the small cameras. Imagine what size 1.4 lens would have been if it had to serve the sensor in the Rx100. 10MM pizels is just right. These small sensors with 20MM are just rubbish!
