Here are 30 sample JPEG photos taken with the new Panasonic Lumix G6 compact system camera.

These photos were taken on a Panasonic G6 running firmware Version 0.2 at a press event held in Vienna, Austria. At Panasonic's request, we can't provide any pictures larger than 5 megapixels.

Interesting to compare to the Nikon DSC HX50 pictures, which are soft. This also uses JPEG compression 6, but its EXIF shows CompressedBitsPerPixel of 2, compared to the HC50 of 3. Probably accounts in part, plus much better lens and bigger sensor of course.
Pity we don’t get pictures from the same places for true comparison, but how could you get the light the same, and will the manufacturers let loose their cameras. Ah well…

Obviously the bigger sensor with its much larger photosites plays a huge role in this, but also bear in mind that the G6 samples are reproduced here at a reduced, five-megapixel resolution at Panasonic’s request - so you cannot, for the time being, see what the 16-megapixel originals look like at 1:1 magnification. This is because the G6 bodies we were able to try out came with firmware version 0.2.
