The Sigma DP2 Merrill is a high-end compact with a 46 megapixel (4800×3200×3 layers) FOVEON X3 direct image sensor and a 30mm f/2.8 fixed lens.

That only thing that plagues these foveon sensor cameras is that noise level at ISO 800 and up, it the images had a usable ISO 3200 then it would be really great.

then there is that operational quirkiness of the camera that costs for $1000.

I’d buy it in a heartbeat still though if I had the cash. I just love how the camera fares in adequate light and for landscape photography.

Has anyone done any high contrast black & white on a sigma? Ill be interested in seeing how it preforms.

Plus that lens corner sharpness looks quite bad!

...F11 - F16 - F11, what are you doing?! That’s an APSC with 15Mpix. You can’t go over F8 without losing sharpness. No one want to see those muddy pictures… .
