Sony A77 Photos Image

We've spent the day shooting with the exciting new Sony A77 camera in the heat of Athens, Greece. Here are 60 sample photos and a 1080p movie taken with the Sony A77 SLT camera and the 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM kit zoom lens.

There's also a full ISO range from 50 to 16000 so that you can see exactly what the new 24 megapixel sensor is capable of.

The Sony A77 digital SLT camera offers a 24.3 megapixel APS-C sensor, 12fps burst shooting, 19-point auto-focus system, an XGA OLED electronic viewfinder with 2359k dot resolution, and 1080p Full HD video recording.

Not with that god awful kit lens we are not, infact the only way we can be can be sure is if the new Zeiss Alphas turn out good, or even better: Leica glass on the Nex7.

They will and It will be godly.

from several photos, it looks all picture will be printed in superb detail in the size of A3 (17” x 11”) foto paper.

great sharpness & detail from corner to corner diagonal checking.  vibrant color deliverance.  excellent image capture (black & white color gradation).

supreme quality out of a SLT camera with breakthru technology.

Yes or No…does this camera or camera lens combo feature the “steadyshot” found in their other SLT bodies?

I have to say that I’m really disapointed! These images did not impress me at all. The iq is almos the same as my old Pentax K10D, and in some of them you can see noise in the blue sky at 250iso and even 100iso!! Weak…

danaceb, they say the photographs were taken with the new high grade 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM pro zoom, not the “awful kit lens” you are referring to.

iso1975, don’t be silly. The A77 has a lot more resolution than your old K10D. Comparing IQ at the pixel level leads to the wrong conclusions. As OCAnd points out, the only way to judge the image quality of a 24-megapixel camera is to print some of these sample photos at 300ppi or thereabouts (which should produce a print that’s bigger than a magazine spread or an A3 sized sheet of paper), and see if the issues you mention come up or not.

Iso1975, the images that you said weak, perhaps come up from some dead pixel, which commonly happenned with C**** & N**** brand.

But, if you see at particular picture, “the Greece flag”  that’s for me one of the most excellent image capture out from standard auto mode of A77.

I guess only few rival camera could deliver the quality as A77 did with Greece flag with the direct sunlight above it.
The corona of the sun, the blue sky gradation, the contrast, the detail, the appearance of blue color of the flag among the silhouette edge was brilliant result.

Well, that greek flag picture is a good example. Check the top of the blue sky at 100%. That does not look good for me…

Another thing… Battery for just 470 shots?!? Once again, comparing with my old K10D, yesterday at a concert I took more than 900 shots and the battery did not even complain once. Come one, is this a joke?!
I was really hoping this was my next camera, but I feel that, after all, it si just a big disapointment. If my K10D had a decent AF and good high ISO IQ, I would keep it, but unfortunately I really have to get a new camera…

Too many MP on this sized sensor. Noise is poor in my opinion. Files from the NEX 5N look FAR superior to me. Smaller, yes, however the lack of noise from the less densely populated sensor is amazing. If the NEX 7 displays the same IQ as the 77 I will be gutted. NEX 7 Looks like the perfect camera for my shooting style but with this IQ, it will be a big no and I shall be saving money and going with the NEX 5N for the better IQ. After all, that IS what its all about isn’t it? Really hoping I’m wrong and the 7 has better performance than the 77 is showing.

We have 2 of the SONY A77s and a 16-50 2.8 SONY lens. Most of these photos are not a good representation of what this camera is capable of at all, possible shot with the original sample firmware? Our photos have been crisp and the colors really pop and we’ve already had several people point out that they look very natural and better than film.

We’ve shot almost 5,000 test shots and 3 weddings so far and have been very impressed with the results. Google our name and you will find links to test shots and weddings under the SONY|MINOLTA tab.

P.S. The GOD awful 18-55 kit lens is just something for new users to shoot with until they get a real lens. Sony’s kit lens is better than Canon or Nikon’s but they all suck! You can resell them on ebay for $100 to people that don’t know better and get your investment back :D

I have owned 5 Sony camera’s including 2 A65’s…the images are as it has been suggested mediocre. May I also add that 3 off the Sony’s I have owned had to be returned because of faults including both the A65’s….......I like see actual images produced by cameras rather than believe all the waffle that comes out of some reviews…...thanks for posting the shots….....Try before you but I would say…..
