We've just tested the brand new Sony A7R II compact system camera with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L lens. Here are 62 JPEG and 62 Raw images taken with a final production version of the Sony A7R II compact system camera with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L lens and the Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Smart Adapter (Mark IV).

Note that although this lens is officially supported by Metabones, we experienced a lot of hunting at the 200mm focal length, so much so that it was easier and quicker to either manually focus or pull back to 150mm, auto-focus, then zoom out to 200mm and auto-focus again.

On a more positive note, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L is the oldest, but also the cheapest and lightest, Canon 70-200mm zoom lens, and although it doesn't have built-in image stabilisation, it benefits from the Sony A7R II's excellent built-in IS.

We've also tested the Sony A7R II / Metabones adapter with a number of other Canon lenses. The great news is that for all the lenses that do support auto-focusing, it's just as fast, reliable and accurate as using the same lenses on a recent Canon DSLR like the EOS 5DS R (with the exception of the EF 70-200 f/4 L at the 200mm focal length). Kudos to Sony for really improving support for Canon EF lenses...
