My conspiracy theory is Sony know the end of the small sensor is getting close, so they have stopped trying and even want the images to look a bit poor so people will be encouraged to step up to the higher large sensor models. I am also quite sure they shot JFK…....

Ever found a smartphone with a 20x zoom. With any sort of useful controls?
If the biggest print you want or need is no more than A3,  then these zoom cameras do a pretty damn good job.
And used sensibly at low ISOs they can produce sharp and detailed images.
How do I know? Because I have a D300S with Nikon lenses and a Fuji HS20. And the latter goes on holiday always. The Nikon is for “serious” work.

And for semi-serious photographers like me who just can’t see the point of lugging around several pounds of equipment AND losing a good photo opportunity whilst trying to change lenses….
Yes cameras like the Sony have their disadvantages, as does my HS20, AND my D300S. The latter is treated all too often as a pro camera and therefore I’m treated as a pro which I most decidedly am not!

I have left my feedback on this camera in reviews on this website, it’s really not all that bad, I feel it’s been made simple and idiot proof, I am used to Nikon and Pentax SLRs and yes this Sony feels like a toy compared to those, however, I wanted a smaller, reasonable priced camera for holidays & general pics, and this fits the suit lovely, there pro’s & con’s like everything, but overall I think for the small price you give for this camera you get a lot for your money, it also works much better on Manual mode where you customise settings I am used to manual functions with my SLR camera and film SLRs before that, I’ve had other bridge cameras too and all automatic with little or no customisation of settings, the biggest downside to this Sony is no Macro for close ups otherwise its a very good camera I rated 3.5 stars out of 5 if had Macro it would have score 4 out of 5.
