Sony NEX-C3 Photos Image

Ahead of our full review, here are 69 sample photos and a movie taken with the new Sony NEX-C3 compact system camera and the standard 18-55mm kit zoom lens.

The NEX-C3 is the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable-lens camera with an APS-C sized sensor. Offering an improved resolution of 16 megapixels, the NEX C3 is smaller and lighter than the NEX-3 model that it replaces. The NEX-C3 is available in silver, black and pink with an 18-55mm kit zoom and costs about $650, or in black only with a 16mm lens for about $600.

I strongly recommend not to buy Sony cameras, until you are sure you’ve got software that supports ARW.
My major disappointment in this camera is that Sony doesn’t give a damn about customers. I spent many hours googling for solutions to make Photoshop CS5 (with latest adobe camera raw 6.4.1 installed ) open ARW files… without any chance.  Then I tried Sony ARW driver for Windows 7 - didn’t help either.Adobe DNG converter doesn’t work too.  My system is windows 7 ultimate 64-bit.  You know I feel bitter. I am not able to use very expensive wonderful software to work with Sony raw files, Sony should warn me so I wouldn’t buy this useless piece of plastic.

I will have to trust you on the picture quality of this camera, because jpegs of nex-c3 are just not awesome to me, always look blurry, grainy, cheap. The quality of ARW stays a secret to me…Damn you, Sony. It was the last purchase of your goods I ever made.

Raw Therapee 4 will work with the nex-c3 raw images.  Thank god for open source.

Mayby one day Sony / Adobe with their paid customers will update their respective products to work with the c3 raw format!

I would like to buy a nex but want to know if I can take all these samples with the kit lens without a tripod?

I was looking with interest to see what the image quality of the NEX-C3 would be like compaired to the previous NEX-3/5 models. ISO performance is, as was, about as good as it gets for a CSC camera. The one thing that put me off buying the NEX-3 was it appearing to take soft images. I’m afraid that when I look at the NEX-C3’s images my feelings are rather similar. It’s nothing I can put my finger on, it just feels that when you study the photos that they would be crisper looking off a SLR, which is what this camera is is matched against, price & spec wise.

Also I can see these photos are enhanced shamelessly. They can’t be a proof of anything but excessive usage of retouching.

I’m not usually too impressed by Sony images but these look very nice.
The Adobe RAW support will come - it’s a new camera so you have to wait a bit for the raw converter to be updated.
As for them being soft, that’s how all digital images are produced by default and then the camera’s image processing applies a certain amount of sharpening. This is a destructive process so it is better for them to be slightly soft as you can then sharpen them yourself to your taste.

OMG!!

How many canikon trolls!

Sony has the best quality-price sensors and all of you are jealous!

I love my Sony Alpha NEX-5 and i’m willing to buy the A77, a real “canikon” killer!!

Oktanio, you don’t understand the word troll, do you?
As obviously you don’t understand what quality means whatsoever?

Oktanio ,

I don’t think they’re Nikon trolls - because Nikon has been using Sony-made sensors from the very beginning and still do, so Nikon-users know that Sony images are always a bit soft-looking.
Now, having said that, I don’t know what Canon fanboys would say.

I would very much love to be a Sony’s fan-boy or whatever you call it, but the fact is that Sony unlike Canon, Nikon or many other brands, refuses to acknowledge customers support priority in business. They grab your money and show a middle finger. Hey, if Sony’s fans admire that attitude, if they prefer being treated disrespectfully then I have nothing more to say.
From Canon user’s point of you I can’t say nothing about nex-c3, because to compare I need adobe camera raw to support ARW, but Sony doesn’t care, adobe does care even less.

#16 No point in launching a one-man war against Sony

I’m not sure why you’re ranting because support for any new camera always takes a while to appear within raw converters…anyway, the new release candidate versions of Lightroom and Camera Raw include support for the NEX-C3.
