Great review. Just one comment on CA: the M has CA correction built in for JPEGs, and RAW processors like DPP and ACR also have profiles for this lens. As a practical matter CA is non existent thanks to this.

As stated by Dan, the camera will clean up CA in jpegs, just select it in the menu. Having tested the camera intensiely I’d say they are easily the best CA free files I’ve ever seen. Great job, Canon. The only -ve I’ve found with my 22mm/EOS M is that the left side of the frame is not quite as sharp as the right side (uneven lens field curvature or else off-plane sensor, I guess, stopping down to f8 helps but it’s not ideal - and a problem that crops up far too often on quality-brand photo equipment, not just Canon.

4 stars is underrated! There are many 20mm AF crop sensor lenses, but this one stands out. Which wide angle lens gives you F2 and such amount of sharpness wide open? No other manufacturer offers a lens like this. Consider what you pay for a good 35mm F2.8 fullframe lens (which equivals Eos M / 22mm combo in field of view and DOF). A FF combo would be four times as heavy and six times as expensive.

Agree with Ralph, the small size CONTRAST,(not often mentioned in lens reviews)and without that no matter how sharp it aint going to look any good at all, is great. Sharpness is superb over the frame. Not got me wishing to get my Zeiss vario sonnar out (my best lens). Sony nex sel 18-55 will not be out any more,(never could get a good picture out of that.Eos m is on offer at the moment, great price.

I brought this lens for £75 new on eBay. It’s a fantastic lens and the one I leave on my EF M mkII camera all the time. I sold the body of the original EF M due to slow focusing, even with the firmware update.
