Indeed, a Super Zoom with a handicapped zoom during video recording is pretty much a joke.
Perhaps only the most affordable ones could justify it for their price, but then again, there are the Nikon Coolpix L120 and the Fuji Finepix S4000, which cost not much more and have fully operation optical zoom during video.
The L120 even has a special on-lens button for that and 1080p video - tough competition for Olympus - even for their SZ-10.

Actually for this camera I can operate the optical zoom during recording a 720 HD video with sound by choosing the P mode and pressing on the record buttom

The video quality goes down when you use the zoom with sound recording, but the video quality is great without the sound or zoom you have to choose between sound or zoom.Photos quality is great with this camera.I purchased for this camera only for photos I don’t record videos with this one.

I was already to buy two Nikon L120’s for $230 each, when I came across the Olympus for under $150, including a card and bag. On a tight budget, but I would like to save the difference if they are all but equal in quality, performance, etc. Suggestions?

I am comparing the Nikon L120 to the Olympus SP-610. On the surface, they look comparable, with the Olympus being about $80 cheaper. Suggestions?

I bought this camera to take pictures of my son in swim meets. I think I am going to return it. As described, it initially has a very plasticy feel—feels cheap. I could overlook that if it did what I needed it to do, considering the very reasonable price. It has a great zoom, but takes waaaayyy too long to recover to take the next picture! For now, I will stick with my pocket size Olympus with almost exactly the same capabilities, minus the nice zoom.

Low cost camera with quality photos. Powerful with the 4 AA battery. Long lasting battery life. Beginners can start with this camera.

Flash is way too bright in low light settings.  People are blinded by it.  Zooming in, pictures get blurry. Does not take good videos in low light.  Overall not a bad camera.

I’ve recently got into photography and on a tight budget I bought this camera.

I admit I would love control of the shutter speed and I didn’t buy it for the video recording feature (If you wanted that you’d buy a camcorder designed to record).

I wanted it for it’s optical zoom which works perfectly well. The picture quality overall is impressive for what it is even for a cack handed git like myself.

It’s a great camera for beginners who want a single decent shot.

I bought this Olympus for its zoom, but apart for it, I am not satisfied at all…When using zoom the pictures are foggy, and the focusing is quite difficult without the manual focus option…I will buy another as soon as possible…Iam thinking to nikon coolpix p500, what is your opinion?

I just bought this camera. Bought it for casual use (family photos, etc). Am happy with it. As someone else posted already, if you want to shoot videos with it buy a camcorder.

From my experience with this camera, yes, you need to remove the batteries from it and recharge them in a battery charger, and there’s no touch screen technology on it. But it is still great for beginners like me :)

I use the zoom a lot and go thru a lot of batteries.  I should have got a camera that had a charger for the camera instead of having tio buy a charger for the batteries.

I have given order in homeshop18. I just impressed with 22x zoom option. Lets see. I using phone nokia c6-01, it records HD video with great zooming with audio. For normal and perfect home photography, this one is best.

I have been using this one for the last six months, no problems so far.
Advantages:
1. long range zoom, decent image stabilization at longer zooms
2. good quality pics, less noise, at iso’s upto 800
3. used with AA batteries which you can find at every corner
4. decent manual controls like iso, exposure, 16 different shooting modes, decent auto shoot
5. 27 mm wide angle
Drawback:
1. You can’t record audio with video while using optical zoom
2. Noise becomes more at higher isos
3. Not many manual controls
4. Useless 3d photo, I mean, you can’t even preview that.
5. Poor colour reproduction sometimes, when the light is not enough and with the flash
6. The lens cap is a little loose, it comes off pretty easily.

Nearly new it has been back twice to be fixed, first time back it was worse and today just got it back a second time and it is 10 x worse and they say nothing is wrong. Switched it on went off
Straight away ,would not take photo then within seconds drained the batteries and they were brand new straight out of packet, and they still say nothing wrong,so off it will go tomorrow for third time, so fed up no camera for Xmas! And let me say I do love my camera but it is frustrating when it will not work. Will update when I get it back
