Am researching for a compact at the moment, and having checked the review and specs am confident in saying this will never make the shortlist.

Strange - Have I missed something? The specs on this seems a little…12-18 months ago, to be launching it as a cutting-edge unit now if you know what I mean. Unless I must must must have wi-fi, I suppose.

Lens looks interesting but not So much better than the rest and a few match it for quality/max f-stop, full HD is fast getting to be a standard offering and compulsory at this price point, 50i is very Sony (Panny playing catch-up?).  CCD sensor?  Interesting to take that route, upgrading it so it can do full hd video, but still rather poor in low-light, esp since CMos is flavour of the month now (and look what wonderful things Canon, Sony have done w CMos).

There just doesn’t seem to be that many “gee-whizz” shooting options that I kinda love in a modern-day compact - Look at the creative shooting modes compared to say a HS specced Canon (w current cashback offer the beautiful 220HS is around 40% cheaper than this this one btw), or Sony HX/WX series.

Honestly, where’s the Real advance (I don’t mean moving w the market and taking HD from 720 to 1080, or adding 3D to help sell their TV ranges) over say, the FX550 from 2009?

Oh, hang on, it’s got Mega OIS not Power OIS, so does this mean it’s more of a “FS” (value range) than a FX (premium)? I’m confused, maybe in three months they’ll knock it down to half price as an “amazing discount offer” because right now to say you can buy a (lot) more with less is an understatement. Unless you really must must must have wi-fi.

Most sample pictures are taken at 100 iso. They look quite good. The ones at 400 iso are decent too. With good sharpness accross the frame and no fringing this camara deserves more points for IQ.
