Great review. I love the idea of GPS on a camera esp when traveling. To bad this one did not work perfectly.

GPS on a camera is great, but I am questioning whether it will work quick enough. I do not think the gps on a camera will get a gps fix within a couple of seconds that are needed if you want to take photos suddenly.
I have a seperate gps receiver, it works great for tagging photos.

Overall I like this camera, as I do a lot of Geotagging of my photos. But I charge it up, and leave it for a week, and the battery is completely flat. I have 2 batteries, and it happens to both of them.

I think ST1000 has one of the best GPS in compact cameras, far far better than in Nikon P6000. Though, it is not still perfect. We will see Panasonic TZ10 and Sony HX5 :-) I hope these will be even better.

It’s pretty neat, actually. You can “train” the camera to recognize the faces of, say, your family members, and give each one a name. Then, when a picture is taken and the camera recognizes a face as “common”, it will tag the pic’s EXIF with the name as a header attribute. Multiple names if there are multiple people in the frame. That way, you can search your pics later by EXIF attributes.

Have used Nikon, Canon, Olympus compact digital cameras.
Got ST1000 for the extra features. Never thought that the image quality would no better than camera phone in indoor / low light conditions i.e. very noisy.
Very disappointed. At this price, i could get ANY 2 compact digital cameras with a picture quality.

I have this camera, love it but the battery goes flat within 2 days if left in the camera - does anyone know why?
