ON1 Photo RAW Version 2017.0.2

ON1 has released the first major update to ON1 Photo RAW 2017. The application offers one of the fastest ways to cull photos making it easy to tag, rate, make color and tone adjustments, or add effects to photos. The non-destructive workflow utilises sidecar files to store edits and allows photographers the ability to edit and adjust photos locally, in the cloud, or on file servers. This also allows photographers to access their photos from multiple computers and/or allow colleagues to access and edit the same photos from where they left off. Version 2017.0.2 includes support for over a dozen new cameras - including the Olympus SH-2, E-M5 MKII and E-M1 MKII, the Pentax K5 II, the Nikon D5600, the Panasonic DMC-FZ2000, DMC-G2, DMC-G5, DMC-LX15 and DMC-TZ80, the Leica M10 and Leica TL, and the Canon EOS 500D -, improved raw processing results, updated support for Fujifilm camera files, better highlight recovery, and other performance tuning and bug fixes.

Leica M10 Firmware Version 1.3.4.0

Leica Camera has released a firmware update for the Leica M10 digital rangefinder camera. This updateadds numerous improvements to the camera’s handling. These include optimised colour-coding of the status bar for SD memory cards and battery level, which now change from green to yellow to red as the battery charge level reduces or the card becomes full. The ‘Favourites Menu’ has also been revised: up to 15 menu entries can now be created and a second Favourites page opens after adding more than seven entries. Furthermore, the main menu can now be opened by pressing the Menu button in the Favourites Menu. The same button can also be used for page-by-page scrolling. An additional new feature enables the selection of the target display for automatic review on the monitor screen. The menu entry now offers the alternatives ‘Auto’, ‘EVF’ or ‘Display’ as target options, while ‘Edit Favourites’ allows the activation of direct access to ‘M-ISO’ as a Favourites Menu item. The firmware update also brings a further significant reduction in the lag (dark screen) between exposure and display when taking pictures in Live View mode.

WildlifePhoto Photography Competition Winners Announced

The winners of the WildlifePhoto.com 2016 Photo Competition have just been unveiled. Dillon Anderson, a photographer from New Zealand has won the title of Photographer of the Year and a Zambian safari worth $12,000. His portrait of a nocturnal Margay Cat, photographed in the Amazon Rainforest (reprinted above), is a technically challenging photograph of an extremely elusive subject. Will Burrard-Lucas, judge and professional wildlife photographer, said: “Dillon’s photograph captures a strong sense of the cat in its shadowy rainforest habitat. The backlighting has picked out the vegetation on the log and the outline of the cat beautifully. The strong composition and eye contact complete the image.” In addition to the overall winner, there were two further category winners who each received an F-stop camera bag and a Camtraptions camera trap sensor. Tracey Jennings won the Habitats and Landscapes category with her underwater photograph of a Puffadder shyshark in the kelp forest in South Africa, whilst Greg Lecoeur won the Animal Behaviour category with his image of gannets and common dolphins feeding on sardines.
