Press Release

Balcony Jump Academy: Professional Practice Workshop

8th – 9th December 2012

Leading photography agency Balcony Jump has launched a series of photography workshops, which will enable aspiring photographers to learn how to achieve commercial success in this increasingly competitive industry. Their aim is to educate participants in key skills that are often deemed less important in college or university courses, but are incredibly relevant to today’s photography industry.

This two?day intensive workshop is designed for photographers of all stages in their career, who are looking to improve their photographic, marketing and business skills. With over 15 years of experience in helping photographers build successful, lucrative careers we know how imperative it is to have a strong business ethic as well as a set of photographic skills.

The course will cover many areas of photography from fashion to still life, with something for everyone trying to improve or break into the photographic industry. We believe that spending time listening and learning from industry professionals is essential and hope to pass on all we have learnt to the next generation of photographers. Tim Paton, MD and founder of Balcony Jump Management, explains the idea behind the workshops:

“Since I started the agency the whole business of photography has changed beyond belief. Everyone is a photographer now so it is more crucial than ever before to stand out above the crowd. We care passionately about photographers’ rights and work really hard to get them the best deal possible. Photography is not all about making money but it does have value ? I have spent my whole career trying to tell clients that.

When we take on a new photographer and see their work flourish, and they start to realise their potential as well as make some money, it’s a great thing to be part of. This is an exciting opportunity to pass on some of this knowledge to aspiring photographers, and hopefully help to inspire the next generation.”

The workshop will be held at a premier photographic studio in London, with all equipment, lunch and refreshments included on both days. Participants will be required to bring a portfolio of their work.

Topics covered in the workshop will include:
• Portfolio reviews
• Studio fashion photography session with a professional team of models and stylists
• Marketing for photographers
• Case studies, production and budgets
• Using social media to promote your work
• Digital retouching and workflow
• Stock photography workshop
• Street portraiture workshop

Tutors will include:
Tim Payton, MD Balcony Jump Management
Nick Turpin, Advertising and Street Photographer
Zoe Whishaw, Commercial Photography Consultant/Senior Art Director at Gallery Stock
Emma Taylor, Creative Advice Network.
plus others TBC…
