Camera of the Year 2011

Who would have thought that a digital camera inspired by the almost-bygone era of film would become an instant best-seller for a company that has been mostly absent from the higher-end of the market? That’s what the X100 achieved for Fujifilm in 2011, a retro product with a very modern twist that has proved to be by far the biggest surprise of the year, and a clear winner of our Camera of the Year 2011 award.

“The X100 delivers all of the goods and more in terms of its overall handling and image quality. Fujifilm have married the best of the past, in the multitude of external controls, leaf-shutter, optical viewfinder and stunning appearance, with some cutting-edge features, most notably the hybrid optical / electronic viewfinder, which really is a revelation to use.”

  1. Bravo! With the introduction of so many really good cameras this year (even by today's standards of innovative and quickly changing technology), it must have been hard to nail it down to one. But on its merits of excellent IQ, build quality, traditionally great Fuji color (particularly rendering of skin tones), retro good looks, that wonderful choice of optical or great resolution EVF, as well as the usual LCD, reasonable sensor and great lens/aperture range, excellent high ISO performance - and on and on - well, great choice, in my very humble opinion. Next year should be even more exciting, making our selections even more difficult!

  2. I have had one for 8 months and I use it alongside my D90. The X100 is a revalation and well deserved winner, sure it my have a few quirks but I love it.
