Epson Small-in-One Epression Premium XP-600 and XP-800

Epson has introduced two new Wi-Fi enabled “Small-in-One” printers. The flagship Expression XP-800 comes equipped with a 30-page Auto Document Feeder featuring automatic two-sided copying, scanning and faxing, a 3.5” touchscreen with gesture navigation for easy setup and operation, specialty paper support through its rear paper feed4, and an auto-extend paper output tray that automatically extends any time the user hits print from a Mac, PC or iPad. The main difference between the two printers is the scanner resolution, which is 2400dpi on the XP-600 and 4800dpi XP-800,  the printing speed (XP-600: 9ppm, XP-800: 11ppm) and the built-in Ethernet networking feature, which is only offered on the XP-800. The Epson XP-600 ($149.99, pictured) and XP-800 ($279.99) will be available in late-October through major retailer stores across the USA.

  3. I just purchased this unit which overall I am very pleased with. The one thing I find very odd though is that the motorised control panel and output tray opens automatically but will not retract, having to be closed manually. I have read various reviews on the web that say this is normal but I can't quite believe it I'm afraid. The tray is clearly motorised and could retract after printing and removal of print job just as easily as it opens. It feels odd to push the tray back in and you can clearly feel the resistance of the motorised mechanism. I have also seen this review that stated clearly that in the review model the output tray "When idle, the control panel and output tray retract automatically,...."

I have seen the control panel close once automatically but never again since.

Did they forget to include a sensor so it doesn't close on output that has not been removed...? Thereby having to disable this functionality in drivers....?

The FAQ on the US support webpage has also only just appeared as it is flagged as new on 09/01/2013; it does not appear on the UK webpage. In addition, the manual explicitly mentions the manual opening and adjustment of the control panel but does not mention the output tray has to be manually closed.

What are you not telling us Epson?

  4. I'm glad Kevin mentioned that issue! I'm in the
process of buying but if there's a problem with these I'll look elsewhere. I have bought a epson years ago when they first came out with cd printing on disk? It worked quite well, but made a terrible mistake of buying discounted ink for it. This resulted in breakdown of printer, had to trash it! I'm looking one like this, which is better for the home, the XP-600 or the XP-800?
