IGPOTY Competition 7 - Photo Project: Monochrome

The International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) 2013 competition 7 is now underway. Each year, the organisers run three ‘Photo project’ seasonal contests alongside the main competition - focussed on photography ideas, techniques and creativity in connection with garden and plant images. These ‘Photo project’ categories have earlier deadlines than the main competiton. The first of the categories is’ Monochrome’ - it’s all about black and white photography but can include any single-colour photograph. The deadline for this contest is 30 April 2013.

International Garden Photographer of the Year

Competition 7

IGPOTY 2013 competition 7 is now underway. Each year we run three ‘Photo project’ categories alongside the main competition- focussed on photography ideas, techniques and creativity in connection with garden and plant images. These ‘Photo project’ categories have earlier deadlines than the main competiton, so that we can keep a flow of interesting news through the year.

The first of the categories is’ Monochrome’ - it’s all about black and white photography but can include any single colour photograph. Last year this produced some stunning and unusual images.

Deadline for ‘Monochrome’ is

-  April 30th 2013

“Competition director Philip Smith said: “The monochrome category is all about the shapes and textures to be found in plants and gardens; it is also a powerful expression of our love for traditional photography. The images that are produced are always very distinctive and add a wonderful rich flavour to our exhibitions and books.”

Photographers from all over the world are invited to enter the annual International Garden Photographer of the Year competition, now in its sixth year.

International Garden Photographer of the Year is the world’s premier competition for garden, plant and environmental photography, organised in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

There are eight categories:

* The Beauty of Plants
* Wildflower Landscapes
* Greening the City
* Beautiful Gardens
* Wildlife in the Garden
* Trees, Woods, Forests
* Breathing Spaces
* The Bountiful Earth

Photographers can enter single images or themed portfolios of six.

There are over £13,000 worth of cash prizes with a range of special awards and prizes. All successful photographers have the chance to participate in next year’s prestigious touring exhibitions - venues include Kew Gardens, Sydney Botanic Garden, Australia, and New York Botanical Garden, culminating in a free exhibition at the Bankside Gallery next to Tate Modern on London’s South Bank in July 2013.

All successful images will be included in a stunning book published by Kew Publishing.

Portfolio winners will receive a cash prize, plus gold silver and bronze medals from the Royal Photographic Society.

All information about the competition and how to enter can be found at igpoty.com.
