Panasonic GM1 v Sony RX100
You can change the lens on one of these cameras - but can you tell which one?!
We've directly compared the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM1 compact system camera with the popular Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 compact.
The new Panasonic GM1 is tiny, so small in fact that it clearly rivals the Sony RX100 compact camera in terms of size, both with and without the new 12-32mm lens fitted.
No wonder Panasonic intend to market the Lumix DMC-GM1 as a competitor in the premium compact sector, as well as against other mid-range mirrorless models...
A gallery of 9 photos of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM1 compact system camera compared with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 compact camera.

There is one very important comparison image missing:
Panasonic GM1 with lens switch off versus Sony RX100 switched off.
It seems to me that only the Sony will be pocketable.

Ill take the GM1 -thankyou very much--amazing that they managed fit a M4/3 sensor in there! The perfect compact camera or backup to a GH3 or OMD.

Yeh its really odd that there are zero pictures of both cameras with the lens retracted. I think thats the only view that really matters.

Are you guys reading a different article? The very first photo shows the two cameras with their lenses retracted.

Don't be ridiculous Stewie. Obviously a view from above or below or a profile view with the lens retracted s required to properly determine how pocketable the camera is.
Meanwhile there are about 5 shots with the lens zoomed out in every possible angle.

Seriously Duke? Look at the 3rd and 4th photos. It's obvious which part of the lens is fixed and which part is extended. You're not going to get the GM1 with its kit lens into your jeans pocket.

Lumix DMC GM1 is a nice looking camera, but not really pocketable compared against Sony RX-100. You still need 2 pockets to say that this camera is pockatable, one for the body and the others for the lens.

The GM1 is amazing, the perfect spy camera!

Do you work for Panasonic ??? You might work for them.
Because you intentionally mislead people and lie.
The last pics is Lumix GM1 ( WITHOUT the lens ! ) vs Sony RX 100 (WITH lens of course, it's a compact). You cannot put Lumix GM1 in a jean pocket — I do have a GM1 with a 20mm pancake lens — but you can do it with Sony RX 100.
