Steve Bloom’s Africa: From the Apartheid Years to Africa Today

On Monday 29 April, best-selling author and photographer Steve Bloom will deliver a lecture as part of PhotoVoice’s ‘Words on Monday’ series. “Witness silverback mountain gorillas deep in the rainforest; endangered black rhino drinking at a moonlit waterhole; remote cultures in Ethiopia’s Omo Valley; Mozambican migrant workers toiling in a gold mine three kilometres below ground; and fishermen on the Niger River,” the charity said in a statement. “In this unforgettable event, Steve captures the diversity of the continent where he grew up, and where he has felt compelled to return throughout his life.” The lecture will take place at Kings Place, 90 York Way, London, N1 9AG, starting at 7pm. Tickets cost £9.50 when bought on the door, with an early bird discount available to those purchasing their tickets before Sunday 31 March.

PhotoVoice presents: STEVE BLOOM’S AFRICA
From the Apartheid Years to Africa Today

Monday April 29th 2013
7:00pm-8:30pm

Venue: Kings Place, 90 York Way, London, N1 9AG

Tickets: £6.50 Early Bird (before 31st March) / £9.50

Join best-selling author and photographer Steve Bloom as he journeys through the essence and diversity of Africa in this exciting live theatre presentation.

Ticket sales will benefit charity PhotoVoice, a leader in the field of participatory photography, who design and develop projects for the empowerment of marginalised groups worldwide, for positive social change.

From his early documentary early work in 1970s apartheid South Africa which led to his exile, to his recent monographs Living Africa and Trading Places, the Merchants of Nairobi, Steve shares with the audience this extraordinary continent; through landscapes from desert to jungle, dynamic wildlife, and human life from remote villages to teeming metropolis.

Witness silverback mountain gorillas deep in the rainforest; endangered black rhino drinking at a moonlit waterhole; remote cultures in Ethiopia’s Omo Valley; Mozambican migrant workers toiling in a gold mine three kilometres below ground; and fishermen on the Niger River. In this unforgettable event, Steve captures the diversity of the continent where he grew up, and where he has felt compelled to return throughout his life.
