Nikon has announced a pair of P series cameras, including the Nikon Coolpix P510 with a record-breaking 42x optical zoom. Alongside its 24-1000mm (eq.) f/3-5.6 lens, the Nikon P510 packs a built-in GPS module, Vibration Reduction technology and a 16.1-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor. A 3-inch high-resolution (921,000-dot) vari-angle monitor makes it easy to compose images and movies from difficult angles. The other new P series camera, the Nikon Coolpix P310, offers a less ambitious 24-100mm equivalent focal range but boasts a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture at the wide end. Both cameras feature a mode dial with P, A, S and M modes, and both will be available in February/March (US/UK). The Nikon Coolpix P510 carries an MSRP of $429.95 / £399.99 / €471.00, while the Coolpix P310 has a suggested retail price of $329.25 / £299.99 / €354.00.
