The new flagship Fujifilm X-H1 is the first camera in the mirroless X series to include in-body image stabilization (IBIS). The 24.3 megapixel X-H1's 5-axis in-body image stabilization system employs three axial accelerometers, three axial Gyro sensors, and a specially developed dual-processor to offer a maximum of 5.5 stops of compensation when used with most (but not all) XF and XC lenses. The X-H1 is also the first camera in the X series to include ETERNA, a new film simulation ideal for shooting movies, creating understated colors and rich shadow tones. It features a new F-log video mode and supports DCI 4K video, 200 Mbps high bit rate recording and 1080/120P high-speed video.

The Fujifilm X-H1 will be available from March 2018. The Fujifilm XH1 body-only costs £1699 / $1899 or £1949 / $2199 with the new VPB-XH1 vertical battery grip.

The FUJINON MKX 18-55mm T2.9 and FUJINON MKX 50-135mm T2.9 are the first full manual cinema lenses to be compatible with the X Series camera range. These lenses deliver high optical performance and comfortable operability for professional video shooting.

The FUJINON MKX 18-55mm T2.9 and FUJINON MKX 50-135mm T2.9 lenses will be available from early Summer 2018 priced at £3499 and £3799 respectively.

Fujifilm have announced new firmware updates for the GFX 50S, X-T20, X-A3 and X-A10 cameras will be released in the next few months. The GFX firmware update 3.00 will add two new functions “Focus Bracketing” and “35mm Format Mode”. The X-T20 firmware update 2.00 will provide support for “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO”, improve studio flash controller compatibility, introduce new AF tracking algorithm and include other functional and operational updates.

Panasonic further grows its range of Lumix G cameras with the GX9. Billed by Panasonic as a premium street photography camera, the GX9 slots into the range alongside the GX8 and GX80, replacing neither of these models. 

The Panasonic GX9 is most readily compared to the GX80. In general, any new features mentioned in this first look are against the GX80.

The Panasonic Lumix GX9 is a new compact system camera with a sleek design aimed at street photographers. The GX9 has a 20.3 megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor, Live View Finder that tilts up 80-degrees, 3.0-inch 1240K-dot touch monitor, 5-axis Dual Image Stabilisation system, 4K video recording, an exposure dial and a focus lever, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Panasonic GX9 will go on sale in the UK in early March, priced at £699 (body only).

The Olympus E-PL9 is a new entry-level compact system camera that features a 16 megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor, a built-in flash, 3-axis in-camera image stabilisation, a tiltable LCD touchscreen, 4K video recording, TruePic VIII processor from the flagship OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera, and Bluetooth and Wi-fi connectivity. The Olympus PEN E-PL9 is a new entry-level compact system camera aimed at smartphone users who are looking to upgrade. The E-PL9 offers a touchscreen interface, 3-axis in-body stabilization, 4K movies, a new built-in flash, 121 AF points covering most of the image area, combined Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi connectivity, new Advanced Photo (AP) mode, and the TruePic VIII image processor from the flagship OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera.

Due for delivery in mid-March, the Olympus PEN E-PL9 will be available in white, black or brown as body only or in a kit with lens:

The Fujfilm X-A20 is a new mirrorless camera aimed at beginners. The 16.3 megapixel Fuji XA20 has a 3.0-inch, 180-degree flip-up "Selfie" screen with touch control and interestingly Eye AF, built-in pop-up flash, Wi-Fi function, shooting mode dial, electronic shutter with a top speed of 1/32000 seconds, and a small and lightweight retro design that weighs just 494 grams with the XC 15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ kit lens. 

The Panasonic GF10 / GF90 is a new mirrorless camera aimed at beginners. Accompanied by the strapline "My First Mirrorless", the GF10 / GF90 has a special "4K Selphy" mode that allows you to shoot selfies using the camera's 4K Photo 30fps high speed continuous shooting mode. The 16 megapixel DC-GF10 also sports a new color, now available in Black, White or Orange, a redesigned grip that looks suspiciously like the one found on the Olympus E-PL8, and it uses Micro SD memory cards. Sales of the Panasonic GF10 / GF90 will start in Japan on February 22nd 2018. Note that there is no difference in product specifications between the DC-GF10 / DC-GF90 part numbers.

The new Fujifilm X-A5 is the smallest and lightest mirrorless digital camera within the X Series range. Combining a new 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor with the X Series signature colour reproduction technology, the X-A5 offers a host of new features, including a newly developed zoom lens, 4K movie recording, touch screen and the latest Bluetooth pairing technology for immediate image transfer.

The Fujifilm X-A5 will be available as a kit with the FUJINON XC 15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens from February 2018, available in Brown, Pink and Black priced at £549.

Fujifilm have added a new lens to their more affordable XC range of lenses, the 15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ. This collapsible lens is the smallest and lightest (135g) zoom created for Fujifilm’s mirrorless digital camera X series range. It offers a focal length from 23mm to 69mm in the 35mm equivalent, utilises an electric zoom and includes 3-stop optical image stabilization. The FUJINON XC 15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens will be available from March 2018, in Silver and Black, priced at £259.

The Travegon 50mm f:2.5 lens is the combination of a close-to-perfect optical system designed for mirrorless cameras in a compact lens housing. The Travegon 50 is only the first lens in a series that will span from 35mm to 135mm. The Travegon 50 will be available for an early-bird price of $599 for the first 24 hours. Prices will then start at $629. Lenses are expected to ship in July / August 2018.

Leica Camera has announced the first two editions of a new line of high-performance Summicron-SL lenses for the Leica SL-System; the APO-Summicron-SL 75mm f/2 ASPH. and the APO-Summicron-SL 90mm f/2 ASPH. Both lenses seamlessly work with the SL-System’s lightning-fast autofocus and, as with all SL-Lenses, have been designed and constructed in Germany with exceptional materials for a long work life.

In the USA the APO-Summicron-SL 75mm f/2 ASPH. and the APO-Summicron-SL 90mm f/2 ASPH. will be available in February.

In the UK the APO-Summicron-SL 75 mm f/2 ASPH. will be available from 25 January 2018, and the APO-Summicron-SL 90 mm f/2 ASPH. from 8 February 2018 at £3,750 and £4,100 (including VAT) respectively.

In the second half of 2018, Leica will launch two more lenses, the Summicron-SL 35 mm f/2 ASPH. and APO-Summicron-SL 50 mm f/2 ASPH.

What a strange and exciting time we live in! This is the new Tamron 100-400mm lens for full-frame DSLRs, in a Canon EF fit, mounted on the new Sony A7R III mirrorless camera, via a Sigma MC-11 adapter! Talk about worlds colliding! And it actually works too...
