Professional Photographers of America (PPA) has announced the results of its international photographic competition. A panel of 45 eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from nearly 5,000 total entries from August 4-7 at Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Over 1,800 images were selected for the General Collection and 918 (roughly 18 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection — the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the “Loan Collection” book and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press. Photo-on-canvas.co.uk has announced a Europe-wide photo contest called “Summer of the Century.” In cooperation with FF-Fotoschule.de, Heise Media, GFW Publishing and Photo-collage.net, thousands of participants in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands have been asked to participate in the competition, which runs until 31 August 2014. The Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers has announced the winners of its Land and Sea Photography Competition. Alessandro Tear’s photo “Vignette Pier” (reprinted above) was chosen as the winner from over 560 entries. Alessandro remarked on winning the competition "It was taken with a Canon eos 550d with a 24-70mm 2.8 aperture lens with a 195s shutter length. The winners of the world’s longest running photography exhibition have been announced. Student, amateur and professional photographers from around the world were invited to enter their images to The Royal Photographic Society’s International Print Exhibition 157, and over 6,600 images were submitted. The five award winners are Jacqueline Roberts (Germany), William Lakin (UK), Mandy Barker ARPS (UK), Tamara Staples (USA) and Damien Wootten (UK). The exhibition at Berkeley Gallery, Greenwich Heritage Centre, Woolwich, runs until 28 August 2014 before moving on to venues around the United Kingdom. X-Rite today launched a photographic competition, challenging photographers all over the world to capture their ColorChecker Passport in some of the locations they will be visiting during the summer holiday season. The “Where in the World is Your ColorChecker Passport” photo contest runs until 15th September, with weekly judging taking place every Thursday. The weekly pirizes include X-Rite products such as the critically acclaimed ColorMunki Display, i1Display Pro and ColorMunki Photo. At the end of the competition, X-Rite Coloratti and world-renowned portrait photographer Greg Gorman will select one final winner. The winner will have the opportunity to have a personal conversation with Greg to choose a signed 13” x 19” print of one of Greg’s masterpieces. The Heart of Devon Tourism Partnership has launched a photography competition to find images this summer that capture the uniqueness of the ‘Heart of Devon’ be it a magical moment, special event or festival, well-known landmark or hidden treasure. The winning image will be used as part of a Rugby World Cup 2015 tourism promotional campaign for the region. The winner will also receive a £100 voucher for photography equipment and a half-day session working alongside Devon based professional photographer Tony Cobley. A sea view photography competition, run by the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society, is still on the hunt for the UK’s ultimate sea view. Having already seen a wave of entries, the competition, which is in its second year, will be judged by a panel of experts: Matt Havercroft, editor of Discover Britain Magazine, Kate Westaway, a marine photographer and TV producer and Commodore Malcolm Williams, the Charity’s chief executive. The prize, donated by P&O Ferries, will be a five-day return crossing on their Dover to Calais route for a car or caravan and up to nine passengers. The trip can be booked any time between now and June 2015 and it comes in a celebration envelope. The deadline for entry is 5pm on 8th August.

FXB International, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to lifting people out of extreme poverty, today launched a global photography competition to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The competition will see one talented amateur photographer win a half-day photography masterclass with world-renowned photographer, Jillian Edelstein and the chance to have their winning image featured alongside Jillian’s as part of an international exhibition launching at London’s prestigious gallery@oxo in August this year. The exhibition, Framing Hope: Celebrating 25 Years of Poverty Eradication with FXB International, will feature 25 inspiring images shot by Jillian Edelstein, capturing the stories of hope and success of families in Burundi, China, Colombia, India and Rwanda who joined the FXBVillage programme. To enter, amateur photographers will need to submit a single photograph that best conveys the theme "Framing Hope". MDL Marinas have launched their annual photography competition. Openn to both amateur and professional photographers alike, the competition closes at midnight on Sunday 10th August, with the winning shots set to be unveiled at September’s PSP Southampton Boat Show. The winner of MDL’s Photographer of the Year will receive a boat portfolio taken by professional marine photographer Brendan Fitzgerald of Fitz Marine Photography, presented in a handcrafted, leather bound album worth £700. The runner-up will enjoy a magnum of Champagne. In the Under-16 competition, the winner will be presented with a Nikon Coolpix AW120 digital compact camera, whilst the runner-up will be awarded £50 worth of Amazon vouchers.
