Pentax Optio E50Steves Digicams have reviewed the Pentax Optio E50, a new 8 megapixel entry-level digital camera with numerous automatic functions.

“Outdoor quality from the Pentax E50 is good. The images are well exposed, and the colors are bright and crisp. The 3x optical zoom, with a 35mm equivalent of 37.5-112.5mm, is great for shooting landscapes, group and individual photographs, but it is not enough to get you closer to distant objects. At the wide end of the zoom, you will see a moderate amount of barrel distortion and some vignetting. You will also see some edge softness throughout the zoom range.”

QuickPro DVD Camera GuidesQuickPro DVD Camera Guides feature interactive camera tour of the latest DSLRs. QuickPro is now producing new DVD Camera Guide titles every month, the latest being tutorials for the popular Nikon D60 and Canon Xsi. “People don’t want to spend the hours required to read and apply a user manual,” says Landon Bradfield, QuickPro, LLC’s sales manager. “Consequently, they buy these amazing SLR cameras and then never realize their full potential and the power of this mind-blowing technology. There’s a great disconnect there, so we’re changing that with our DVD tutorials.”

However, the recent soaring costs of such materials as silver and crude oil mean that Fujifilm is no longer able to do this. The worldwide increase will be effective from July 2008.

Canon S5 ISLuminous Landscape have reviewed the Hasselblad H3D-II DSLR camera, which offers a choice of 22, 31 or 39 megapixel sensors up to 48x36 mm in size.

“My overall impression of this camera is one of smooth ease-of-use. I took to it right away and found very few niggles with the handling apart from those mentioned above. It’s logical, the menus are easy to navigate, and the camera controls are where they should be. Optically it is as excellent as you’d imagine from Hasselblad, and whilst the supplied software is dated, the replacement, Phocus, promises great things. It’s not a perfect landscape camera, but what is? As a general purpose camera of the highest possible image quality it is a winner and I’d have no hesitation in recommending it.”

Olympus SP-570 UZDCViews have reviewed the Olympus SP-570 UZ camera, which features a 20x zoom equivalent to 26-520mm.

“Image quality at low ISO settings is excellent, with well balanced, realistic colours and lots of punch. Saturation, sharpness and contrast can be upped or toned down on the screen menu, or a quick fix could be to choose for vivid or natural colours. White balance and exposure are spot on most of the time and images rarely require any exposure compensation except for extreme contrast situations with the sun in the picture or very dark shadow areas. Shadow adjustment can be set at the touch of a dedicated button at the capture stage or fixed in camera in post processing and this works okay.”
