In a shock move, Leica has sacked its CEO, Steven Lee, following comments that he recently made about a full-frame Leica M-system rangefinder camera. UK magazine Amateur Photographer, who initially broke the full-frame news back in January, are reporting that Leica’s owner, Andreas Kaufman, has now replaced Lee with immediate effect.
“This change of management allows Leica Camera AG to immediately review strategies and make changes where required.’ Leica UK’s MD David Bell tells AP. ‘One of the first tasks for Dr Kaufmann will be to positively review all options for the M system’s future. There will be more details in the following weeks.”

* When Exposure Compensation was adjusted from Base Adjustments > Exposure Compensation while Picture Control settings were applied from Base Adjustments > Camera Adjustments > Picture Control, the sharpening effect was cancelled. This issue has been resolved.
* When images captured with the D1 and an AI Fisheye Nikkor 16mm f/2.8D lens, “Fisheye Lens” could not be selected from Base Adjustments> Lens Adjustments. This issue has been resolved.

“Image quality is the most important aspect of camera performance and the A720 does very little to disappoint in that area. Its 8 megapixel sensor produces images with below average image noise. Below ISO 400, images are quite clean. Noise starts appearing at ISO 400 but is not significant until ISO 800 for bright subjects and ISO 400 for dark subjects. Compared to most non-Fuji compact cameras, the Canon A720 produces very clean ISO 400 results in good light. Higher ISO settings are quite noisy though and ISO 1600 should generally be avoided.”

Still, you have to consider that this is a 12-megapixel camera, and the printed results pretty much guarantee excellence up to ISO 400 at 8x10 (the practical maximum most people can print at home, and good quality in the ISO 800 to 1,600, both of which produce a fine 5x7 and 4x6, respectively. Add that better-than-ever quality to the Canon A650’s articulated LCD, fill flash control, and Custom modes, and you have a great camera for photo enthusiasts without breaking the bank.”
