Apple LeopardPhoto enthusiast Henrik Paul has taken an in-depth look at what the latest update to the Mac OS, nicknamed Leopard, has to offer to the photographer.

“Perhaps the most interesting and/or useful feature in Leopard, for me at least, is Time Machine. In a few words, it’s a no-brainer backup system. In technical terms, it’s an incremental backup service that takes a backup once an hour (or the next time your backup target is connected). The backup target is most usually an external hard drive disk, but it can be another internal hard drive disk or even a separate partition in the same hard drive as well.”

Sony H3PhotoReview have reviewed Sony DSC-H3, the smallest ever Cyber-shot camera featuring a Carl Zeiss 10x zoom lens.

“If you can manage with limited wide-angle coverage and do without a viewfinder, a full range of exposure adjustments and widescreen video recording, the DSC-H3 is a nice little camera that delivers good quality pictures for the money. Although it’s not quite as small as Panasonic’s popular DMC-TZ3 model, which also boasts a 10x optical zoom lens, it’s still not too big for travellers if you don’t fit the lens hood and adaptor.”

Canon Digital IXUS 850 ISCameraLabs have reviewed the Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS, an 8 megapixel camera which offers a 28mm 3.8x wide-angle zoom lens with optical Image Stabilizer.

“From the first moment you pick up the Canon Digital Ixus 860IS / PowerShot SD870 IS, it’s clear you’re dealing with a quality product. It feels well built and comfortable to hold, starts very quickly, offers decent wide angle coverage and boasts a huge screen which looks great in use.”

Nikon P5100DPReview have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix P5100, the new flagship camera in the COOLPIX range, offering 12.1 megapixels, 3.5x zoom (35-123mm) and the EXPEED digital image processor.

“The noisy images (and unimpressive noise reduction) at anything significantly above base ISO are to be expected from a camera built around such a small sensor, but there’s no good reason why the P5100’s control system needs to be so awkward. Inconsistent use of the control wheel and a lack of clear reporting of relevant information back to the user make the P5100 more frustrating than it needs to be.”

Sony T200CNET have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T200, the first digital camera to automatically react to a person’s smile.

“If not for the softer images, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T200 would be a fine followup to the excellent T100. It shoots as fast, it offers more features, and, most amazingly, its touch-screen interface won’t make you want to throw it out of a moving car. If you can still find it, you’re better off with the T100. If you can’t find it, though, or if you have a thing for touch screens, the DSC-T200 will probably satisfy your snapshot needs.”

Canon SX100 ISTrustedReviews have reviewed the new Canon Powershot SX100, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.

“The SX100 also score high marks for its overall picture quality, although it isn’t entirely problem-free. The lens is extremely good, providing almost no barrel distortion at wide angle and only a tiny amount of pincushion distortion at telephoto. The sharpness and level of fine detail is excellent in the centre of the frame, bit it does drop off somewhat towards the edges, with some noticeable chromatic aberration. Colour and exposure are also excellent, and the dynamic range of the 1/2.5-inch CCD is surprisingly good, providing both highlight and shadow detail on high-contrast shots. The only real problem is image noise, which is present in all shots over 100 ISO.”

“The Nikon Coolpix P5100 is identical to the Coolpix P5000 with a slight increase to 12.1MP resolution. Many of you will like this relatively compact digital camera that offers total exposure flexibility in an attractive and durable body. The design is clean with lots of controls that make the camera intuitive to use. The P5100 has one of the best grip on a compact digital camera. The textured and almost all-black finish give the camera a professional look.”

Sony A700TrustedReviews have reviewed the new 12 megapixel Sony A700 DSLR camera.

“Of course the crucial area on which any new camera will stand or fall is image quality, and here Sony has really scored. All that sophisticated technology really does work, and the A700 produces some of the best images I’ve seen from a digital SLR, and certainly from one in this price bracket. With the excellent Carl Zeiss T* lens providing virtually perfect edge-to-edge sharpness, the ultra-fast AF system proving virtually infallible and the very low file compression making the most of it all, the A700 turns in superb results in virtually all circumstances.”

Panasonic DMC-L10CNET have reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10, a new 10.1 megapixel DSLR camera with a unique 2.5 inch free angle LCD screen complete with full time live view.

“The DMC-L10’s image quality is nice, with accurate colors and a very effective automatic white-balance system, which was able to neutralize colors well in incandescent lighting, natural daylight, and even the perplexing fluorescent psychodrama that is the New York City subway system. Unfortunately, much like the Olympus E-510 and E-410, the Lumix DMC-L10 tends to underexpose images shot in full auto mode by between a half-stop and a full-stop.”

HP R937DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the HP R937, which features a 3.6 inch interactive touchscreen LCD, 8 megapixel resolution and 3x optical zoom lens.

“All in all HP once again succeed in surprising us with a nice camera. They just know how to design easy to operate cameras with useful functions without useless ballast. Of course the enhanced photographer will find this camera too simple, but he/she can find his/her thing at other brands. For those who want easy and simple photography it is well-worth looking at the HP assortment. However; before I can be completely enthusiastic, HP should put some time and effort into one issue and that is noise.”

Sony W200Imaging Resource have reviewed the Sony W200, the first 12 megapixel camera on the market, which offers a 3x optical zoom lens, metal body, 2.5-inch LCD screen and an eye-level viewfinder.

“Overall, the Cyber-shot DSC-W200 is an excellent all-around digital camera. It has a lot of flexibility for a range of users, it handles a variety of common-yet difficult exposure scenarios well, and is easy to operate. It’s small, stylish, and well-suited in terms of exposure, color, and responsiveness to a range of situations. Exposures under harsh sunlight are a bit contrasty, but the camera does offer a contrast adjustment to counteract that effect. Barrel distortion is high, and corner softness is evident in some cases, but overall lens performance is still good.”

Olympus SP-560 UZSteves Digicams have reviewed the Olympus SP-560 UZ, the successor to the SP-550 UZ, which adds Face Detection and a new 8 megapixel sensor.

“Our image quality results were good for an 8-megapixel super-zoom model. Using the SHQ mode, the SP-560 captures beautiful images indoors and out, that are nice and sharp with minimal edge softness. Colors are richly saturated, and the exposure system does well in most cases. I did find that when shooting our M&M man in ambient lighting, it had some troubles and produced images that were a bit warm. Noise is well controlled from ISO 400 and below, however as with all consumer models that feature such high sensitivity capabilities, noise becomes more detectable as you increase the ISO number.”

Panasonic DMC-L10DCResource have reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10, a new 10.1 megapixel DSLR camera with a unique 2.5 inch free angle LCD screen complete with full time live view.

“With their new Lumix DMC-L10, Panasonic has created the closest thing to a point-and-shoot experience on a digital SLR that I’ve seen yet. The L10 has live view with contrast detect AF, face detection, a rotating LCD display, scene modes, and an easy-to-use interface. Some of those features come with tradeoffs, though, and I’ll discuss those below. Even with all those consumer-friendly features, the L10 is still a full-fledged D-SLR, offering full manual controls, generally robust performance, and superb photo quality.”

Spyder3Photo-i have reviewed the Spyder3 from Datacolor, a new monitor calibration device aimed at photographers needing the most accurate colour for digital editing.

“I have been using the Spyder 3 for about a month and it has delivered very high quality results, the colours on my screen are vibrant yet faithful to the originals. I like the speed increase in both creating a profile and re-calibrating, this should encourage users to check their system more often.”

Olympus SP-560 UZDigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the Olympus SP-560 UZ, the successor to the SP-550 UZ, which adds Face Detection and a new 8 megapixel sensor.

“The revamped Olympus SP-560UZ will retail for $499, the same introductory price as the SP-550. This price is expected as the old model is, well, old. And the new model isn’t very different than the old one. Sure, it adds face detection and an ever-so-slightly wider lens, but that doesn’t justify any major price hike. As for value, $499 is at the high end of what most consumers want to pay for a non-DSLR camera.”
