Steves Digicams have reviewed the Canon G9, a 12.1 megapixel update of the G7 compact camera, with a 6x zoom lens, 3 inch LCD screen and the return of RAW mode.

PCMag have reviewed the HP Photosmart A826, a compact photo printer that features a massive 7 inch color touchscreen. The HP A826 can print borderless 4x6 and 5x7 inch photos, holiday cards, wallets and panoramas.

“Every so often, I get to play with—uh, test—something new and different. The HP Photosmart A826 Home Photo Center ($249.99 direct) is a prime example. Think of it as a photo kiosk for your kitchen (or anywhere else you like). Gigapan allows you to to capture stunning panoramic images using technology that is affordable to the ordinary consumer - just $279 for a beta unit. A partnership between Charmed Labs, Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute, NASA Ames Intelligent Robotics Group, and Google, Gigapan can capture incredibly high-resolution panoramic images with a standard consumer digital camera. Knoll Light Factory 3 allows you to create lens flares and other lighting effects, including lasers, explosions and suns. “Knoll Light Factory offers a great way of painting with light, when you need to add some flare and sparkle to an image. Improving and speeding up the workflow was a major emphasis for this release, because we know photographers don’t want to spend lots of time at the computer.” said Jim Tierney, president of Digital Anarchy. Light Factory was originally written by John Knoll, the co-creator of Photoshop, to create the Photon Torpedoes in Star Trek First Contact. Knoll Light Factory 3.0 is priced at $149 USD. VSO Software has added several new features to its range of photo software, including support for the Canon EOS 40D RAW format. VSO Image Resizer, PhotoDVD and PhotoOnWeb all now support the 40D camera.

The free online photo editor FotoFlexer has added three new features - Morph, Smart Resize and Insert-A-Face - that are not even available in expensive desktop image editing software. The FotoFlexer editing solution is based on patent-pending Predictive Pixel Partitioning (P³) artificial intelligence technology.

CNET have reviewed the Fujifilm Finepix F50fd compact digicam, which has a 12 megapixel sensor, Dual Image Stabilization, and Face Detection 2.0 technology with a a new Automatic Red-Eye Removal feature.

“As long as you don’t mind the between-shot sluggishness or slight texture that the noise creates, even at lower ISOs when viewed on a monitor, then the Fujifilm F50fd would make a nice choice for advanced photographers looking for a pocket camera to supplement an SLR.”

PhotoReview have reviewed the Samsung i85, an all-in-one camera, MP3 player and portable media player with a large 3 inch touchscreen LCD.

“Photographs taken with the review camera appeared bright with natural-looking colours. Exposures were pitched to record shadow detail, leaving highlights blown-out. Unfortunately, coloured fringes were seen around the edges of outdoor shots with only modest magnification. Imatest confirmed the presence of severe chromatic aberration but showed overall colour accuracy to be reasonably good. Some shifts were seen in reds, where saturation was slightly elevated. Skin hues were generally accurate.”

CNET have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix L10, an entry-level compact digital camera with 5 megapixels and a 2 inch LCD screen.

“You don’t need a high-resolution camera to get good-looking pictures. If they’re made right, 5-megapixel cameras can produce great photos. If you’re on a tight budget, but still want to take some photos, consider the Nikon Coolpix L10. This little camera has few features, a very slow flash recycle time, and can only produce up to 5-megapixel stills, but its tiny price tag and decent picture quality make it a solid budget contender.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the Kodak Z885 digital cameras, which boasts a 5x optical zoom lens (36-180mm) and 8.1 megapixel resolution.

“Overall, it was a mixed bag. The Kodak Z885 was able to make some good snapshots for a low priced camera, but its high ISO feature and supposed digital image stabilization left much to be desired. Movie mode was good, and so was the camera’s connectivity to the many EasyShare printer docks. Image quality is good up to about ISO 400, with reasonable clarity considering the 8-megapixel resolution, but noise suppression starts to tamp detail down from ISO 200 on up.”

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Pentax Optio E40, an 8 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.4 inch LCD and Face Recognition.

“Picture quality is much improved over the E30, although it is still not without its problems, some of them quite serious. Exposure and colour rendition are better, and dynamic range is also good, especially with highlight detail, something that was a weak spot for the E30, however I found image noise to be a major problem at all ISO settings, even the minimum of 80 ISO. There was visible image noise in the darker areas of every shot, which robbed the images of a lot of fine detail and introduced colour irregularities.”

And here, the 40D is hard to beat. CNET have reviewed the new 12 megapixel Sony A700 DSLR camera.

“As for photo quality, the A700 fares quite well. Metering, exposure, contrast, and saturation look excellent under a variety of lighting conditions, and the photos exhibit a broad tonal range. Automatic white balance generally works well, though photos render a bit too warm under strong incandescent or fluorescent lights, and like many cameras, the A700’s auto white balance doesn’t deal well with mixed light sources such as shots taken under fluorescents near a window. Under daylight, balance is extremely good, however.”

DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the new Canon SD870 IS camera, which offers 8 megapixels and a 3.8x, 28mm wide zoom.

“The Canon PowerShot SD870 IS offers a few practical upgrades from its predecessor. The 3-inch screen makes it easier to read menus and check out pictures. It has a wider 28mm lens that can fit larger portraits. The SD870 also boasts a new face detection system that recognizes up to 35 faces at a time – but how often do users photograph that many people? And in general, the SD870’s autofocus system is a bit pokey. There are few weaknesses to the camera’s performance though. Its colors are very accurate and its movies are among the best we’ve seen.”

DPReview have reviewed the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W80, which offers 8 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens, metal body, 2.5-inch LCD screen and an eye-level viewfinder.

“Whilst I had no issues with focus or exposure at all when shooting outdoors in sunlight, once I was indoors the W80’s ‘hit rate’ fell dramatically, and friends and family got sick of being blinded by the (very) bright AF assist light and long wait for the picture to be taken. And if I tried to use the zoom at anything but the widest setting I started to get far more focus errors than I would expect from a Sony camera in 2007.”
