ThinkCamera have just reviewed Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2.
“Each version of Paint Shop Pro has moved it closer to being a challenger to Photoshop instead of Elements big competition. And Paint Shop Pro X2 shows no sign of slackening off the pace. It’s keenly priced and more than delivers the goods. It lives up to the ‘Pro’ side of its name. The game just got raised in photo software on the PC.”

USB 3.0 promises to deliver over 10 times the speed of today’s USB connection. USB (Universal Serial Bus) 3.0 will be a backward-compatible standard and be optimized for low power. “The digital era requires high-speed performance and reliable connectivity to move the enormous amounts of digital content now present in everyday life. USB 3.0 will meet this challenge while maintaining the ease-of-use experience that users have come to love and expect from any USB technology.” said Jeff Ravencraft, technology strategist with Intel. A completed USB 3.0 specification is expected by the first half of 2008.

PhotoReview have reviewed the new 12 megapixel Sony A700 DSLR camera.
“Image noise was remarkably low at high ISO settings, even without the in-camera noise-reduction processing activated. We found slight colour noise at ISO settings between 2500 and 6400 but, at ISO 1600 it was no more obvious than the ISO levels we have found at ISO 400 with some DSLRs we’ve reviewed. Even at ISO 6400, both pattern and colour noise, though noticeable, were very well controlled and shots taken with this setting would be usable as long as they were not enlarged too much. “

Megapixel.net have reviewed the Olympus E-510 DSLR camera, which features a built-in image stabiliser in the camera body. The E510 also has a new image processing engine that offers excellent noise performance and 3fps with a seven image RAW buffer in burst mode.
“The Olympus E-510 is an excellent amateur dSLR. It fits nicely just above the E-410 and its slightly higher price is easily justified by its additional features. The kit lens — the one used in this review — is of good quality, but the auto focus of the E-510 would likely perform even better with a slightly brighter lens such as some of the high quality lenses manufactured by Olympus. Currently, competition in entry-level digital SLR cameras is intense. And while it may not have the most attractive price, the E-510 offers a number of features that should make it very attractive.”

DCResource have reviewed the Panasonic Lumix FX100, a 12.2 megapixel digital camera with a new 1/1.72-inch large CCD and 28mm wide-angle lens.
“Simply put, the 12 Megapixel CCD on the FX100 is overkill for the point-and-shoot crowd. If you’re willing to give up a few million pixels, you can get the DMC-FX33 or DMC-FX55, which offer the same features, faster performance (due to smaller file sizes), and better image quality. Do I recommend the FX100? Absolutely. But unless you’re making absolutely gigantic prints (and will be keep the ISO really, really low), check out the FX33 or FX55 instead.”

CNET have reviewed the Canon A650 IS camera, which has a 12.1 megapixel sensor and a 6x optical zoom with optical image stabilization.
“The Canon PowerShot A650 IS proves that you don’t need to invest in an SLR to get manual controls and large, detailed pictures. As the new high-end member of Canon’s PowerShot A-series line of cameras, the 12-megapixel camera comes packed with manual exposure controls and other photographer-friendly features. Its bulky form won’t win any beauty pageants, but the camera’s substance more than makes up for its relative lack of style, and its sub-$500 price tag makes it look that much sweeter.”

Steves Digicams have reviewed the 8 megapixel Pentax M40 camera, which offers a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD, metal body, Face Recognition and digital Shake Reduction.
“When shooting outdoors, the M40 captures nice images showing pleasing exposure and rich colors. I did notice a slight amount of softness along the left hand side of the frame in many of our samples. Luckily, this model features in-camera sharpness adjustment, which will allow you to “dial in” the preferred amount. Image noise is an issue we touch on with almost every camera, especially when the model features such high sensitivity settings (like up to 3200 on the M40). With this camera, noise levels were average throughout the sensitivity range, becoming more noticeable from ISO 800 and above.”

CameraLabs have reviewed the new wide-angle Sony DT 11-18mm lens.
“In its favour the DT 11-18mm suffers from little geometric distortion or light fall-off considering its ultra wide range, and it’s always good to find a lens hood included as standard – if only Canon would do the same. On the downside though, there’s noticeable softening in the extreme corners, a manual focusing ring which turns during AF, and a relatively slow focal ratio of f4.5 when it’s zoomed-out to 11mm.”
