TrustedReviews have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F40fd camera, which offers 8.3 megapixels, 3x zoom lens, 300 shot battery life, Face Detection technology and support for both xD-Picture Card and SD card formats.
“Fujifilm is the only manufacturer that has really cracked image noise, by a combination of larger than average sensors with larger than average photocells, and vastly superior image processing. The F40fd has a maximum ISO setting of 2000, and produces usable images at this setting, with accurate colour balance, minimal loss of detail and an acceptable level of noise. I’m not exaggerating when I say that its image quality at 1600 ISO is better than many cameras can manage at 400.”

The-Digital-Picture have just published a review of the new Canon Speedlite 580EX II flashgun.
“The 580EX II recycles approximately 20% faster than the 580EX. What is more noticeable to me is the lack of sound during the recharging phase. I’ve grown accustomed to listening to the whine of the charging flashes - I can audibly tell when they are at full power and know when the batteries are nearing the end of their charge. I definitely like the new, very-professional quiet charging, but I need to relearn my flash-ready indicators.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the Kodak EasyShare V803 camera which offers 8 megapixels, a 2.5 inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom lense and up to ISO 1600.
“While it’s an attractive design at an irresistible price with fun accessories designed to appeal to women, the V803’s shutter lag and oversaturated image capture really disappoint. As a fashion accessory it has the goods; it’s only missing the diamonds. But as a camera, it just doesn’t measure up.”

Canon has designed a new CMOS sensor for use in a surveillance camera that has no less than 50 megapixels. Even more interesting, the 50mp sensor is exactly the same size as those used in some of their DSLR cameras. The current incarnation is targeted at industrial surveillance of car parks and theme parks, but who knows where it could end up eventually?

DCResource have reviewed the new Sony T100 camera, which has a 5x optical zoom lens and 3-inch LCD screen, with red, black and silver colours available.
“The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 is camera that takes some large steps forward—and backward—when compared to its predecessor, the T50. It’s a good point-and-shoot camera, though not without a number of annoyances. Many of these negatives are subjective, so they may bother you less than they bother me (so try before you buy). While it’s not a camera I would own myself, I would certainly recommend it to those who don’t take a lot of photos in unusual or low lighting.”

DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the Kodak Easyshare Z650, which has a 6.1-megapixel sensor and 10x zoom lens.
“The Kodak EasyShare Z650 brings a lot of features and controls to a compact SLR-inspired digital camera that pairs a simple and understated camera interface, and menu system with more advanced manual control. The advantage to this pure point-and-shoot camera is that it allows the beginner room to grow without needing to buy a new camera once the restrictions of full auto mode become too limiting.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanner.
“We’ve used the V700 for nearly all our scanning, from simple copier tasks through high resolution film scans for prepress. No matter what we threw at it, it never missed a beat. With one of the highest scan resolutions available in a desktop model at 6400 dpi and a dual lens design that can digitize a slide at 2400 dpi in a minute, that’s no surprise. Indeed, VueScan author Ed Hamrick cites it as one of the best high-end flatbeds. “

The miCARD memory card combines the popular MMC and USB 2.0 standard interfaces into a single memory card. When used in cameras, smart phones and PDAs, miCARD takes advantage of the low power consumption and high performance characteristics of the MMC interface. For transfer, the card is inserted directly into a devices’ USB connector, removing the need for dedicated card slots or separate card readers. “MMCA developed the miCARD specification to provide manufacturers a solution that is adaptable and convenient for consumers,” said Yves Leonard, MMCA chairman. “Adding USB 2.0 capability to a memory card provides an interface that is compatible with existing products and widely recognized by general consumers.”

DCResource have reviewed the new Nikon D40x DSLR, which features a 10.2 megapixel sensor, producing 3,872 x 2,592-pixel images, 3D Colour Matrix Metering II system and 2.5 inch LCD screen, all in the most compact Nikon DSLR ever.
“If I could describe the D40x’s photo quality in one word, it would be “vivid”. Nikon has turned up the color saturation to “Kodak” levels, which I think is a little over-the-top. If you agree then you’ll want to play around with the various color settings on the camera. So what else? Exposure was spot-on in all of my real world photos. Being a digital SLR, photos are a bit on the soft side, and this too can be addressed by modifying a setting in the menu, should you feel the need. The camera is capturing plenty of detail, though, with nearly no noise, and no “smearing” from noise reduction. Purple fringing did pop up with both of the lenses I tested (the 18-55 and 55-200), but it was fairly minor.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the new Olympus SP-550 UZ. This is the first digital camera to offer an 18x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 28-504mm.
“While I had a little trouble focusing on subjects that wouldn’t sit still, the Olympus SP-550 UZ let me shoot things I couldn’t even see without looking through its lens. And I found that a lot of fun. A whole new world of birds, fish and buffalo, in fact. But the Olympus SP-550 UZ was just as capable taking shots at wide angle and in Macro mode. Some of my flower shots really surprised me with the quality of the color and detail. And its optical image stabilization and high ISO performance took great low-light shots as well.”
