NEW YORK (November 2, 2006)—The Universal Photographic Digital Imaging Guidelines have been updated and revised. The new version 2.0 is available to the public at http://www.UPDIG.org . A free, downloadable PDF version is also available on the UPDIG site.
The 12 Guidelines are organized into a Quick Guide (executive summary) and a Complete Guide. The aim is to clarify the issues affecting accurate reproduction and management of digital image files. Although the guidelines were created from a photographer’s perspective, the UPDIG group has worked hard to incorporate the concerns of everyone involved in the process of reproducing digital images. Anyone working with digital images should find them useful.

DIWA member LetsGoDigital have published their review of the recently announced 10 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera.
“One of the major assets of the Panasonic DMC-FZ50 is its lens, which not only offers a gigantic range, but also proves to be of excellent quality. And let’s be honest: that is exactly what one would expect of a lens that features the Leica brand name. The distortion is kept reasonably under control, the sharpness is high and chromatic aberration only occurs when working with extremely high contrasts. Another great addition is the camera’s regular zoom and focus ring. This simply is a lot easier and more pleasant to work with than buttons.”

CNET have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix L5, which offers a 5x zoom lens, 7 megapixels and 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“Sometimes, the appeal of simplicity is too hard to ignore. That could explain why we’ve seen a growing number of cameras that combine a very short list of features with lots of automation to provide a relatively thought-free shooting experience. This should definitely appeal to people who are confused by the various settings on most cameras and have no interest in learning about them, though as you’d imagine, tweakers will want to steer clear. Nikon’s Coolpix L5 isn’t as bare-bones an experience as Olympus’s FE series or even Nikon’s own Coolpix L6, but it’s still fairly basic.”

CNET have reviewed the Fujfilm FinePix A600 Zoom, which features a Super CCD sensor, 6.3 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens and 2.4 inch LCD.
“As a budget point-and-shoot, the A600’s features don’t exactly stand out. The 6-megapixel Fujifilm SuperCCD sensor is complemented by a mundane 36m-to-108mm-equivalent lens. It lacks image stabilization, so the most you can do for low-light or high-speed shooting is turn on the flash and bump the sensitivity up to its maximum of ISO 400. The camera includes an anemic video mode that records QVGA (320 x 240) footage at 10fps, little better than most camera phones’ video modes.”

Megapixel.net have published a review of the budget 6 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot S600 digital camera.
“This said, the Sony DSC-S600 represents real value for money, and should enjoy a great deal of well deserved interest at this time of the year when the holidays are fast approaching. While some savings have been made to position the S600 at this price point, in our opinion the image quality was not sacrificed. Indeed, shots captured with the camera and printed out to a 7 x 9.4-inch size (18 x 24 cm) at 300 dpi have nothing to envy comparable photos produced by much more expensive models.”

TrustedReviews have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S7c, which offers 7 megapixels, a 35-105mm lens and electronic Vibration Reduction.
“Well it’s certainly got style, and plenty of it. Like most Nikon cameras, the build quality is impeccable. The S7c has an all-metal body finished in an attractive matt black with chrome trim, and has a nicely understated design. The body has a wave-like shape, with a smooth curve running the length of the front panel and reprised on the left-hand trim. The camera is thinner towards the right hand end, although it flares out again right at the edge, obviously intended to provide a handgrip.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the 6 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FX3, which features a LEICA DC lens with image stabilizer and an ISO 1600 High Sensitivity Mode.
“The Panasonic FX3 produced consistently good results in images shot in adequate lighting conditions with crisp—though not oversaturated—color, accurate skin tones, and excellent sharpness. The camera’s Leica-branded lens was able to capture a lot of subtle detail. I’ve always had good luck with the Macro mode on Panasonic’s cameras, and the FX3 was no exception. When capturing close-ups of flowers, the camera had no problem finding focus.”

Imaging Resource have just reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 digital camera.
“I confess, it had me from hello. The Samsung NV3 looks like the love child of a Leica and an iPod nano, educated in all the best schools; and, man, can she dance. I just couldn’t get the NV3 out of my mind. It takes pictures, sure, but it’s also an MP3 player. Kind of a no-brainer when you think about it. But Samsung took that a little further, making the Samsung NV3 a Media Player and Text file reader, too. In fact, you can listen to music while shooting 3 megapixel pictures or reading text on the NV3—or playing a slide show.”

DigitalCameraInfo have compared the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 (pictured), Sony A100 and Canon Digital Rebel XTi DSLR cameras.
“There are choices for the photographer who wants a combination of manual and automatic options in a 10-megapixel sub-$1000 DSLR. In this comparison review, we’re looking at the three most prominent cameras – the Sony Alpha A100, the Canon Rebel XTi and the Nikon D80. The Canon and the Sony are both available online for under $900 with a lens and both offer dust removal and reduction features. The Sony has in-camera image stabilization – Super Steady Shot technology that moves the sensor in response to camera shake. The Nikon lacks dust technology and stabilization, but goes for about $1100 with a similar lens (it’s under $1000 for the body alone). Is there a separate niche for each of these, or is one simply a better buy?”
