Kodak Easyshare P712Imaging Resource have reviewed the 7 megapixel, 12x zoom Kodak Easyshare P712 digital camera.

“Image quality was decent overall if not quite as sparkling as I would have expected for a camera with these specs. In outdoor settings, the Kodak P712 had a tendency to overexpose slightly, blowing out clouds and making warm sunlight look harsh. Because the camera is so adjustable, I’d recommend turning down the exposure at least a third of a stop if you plan on shooting in bright settings. When it comes to exposure, the Kodak P712 offers as much or as little control as you could want. An Exposure Mode dial on top of the camera offers Auto, Program AE, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, Scene, Movie, and three Custom presets.”

Canon PowerShot A710 ISDCResource have the first review of the new Canon PowerShot A710 IS digital camera.

“The PowerShot A710 IS takes an already excellent camera—the A700—and adds some one really useful feature (image stabilization) and one not-so-useful feature (more pixels). Despite going up from 6 to 7 Megapixels, the A710’s photo quality remained very good, with noise levels that are perhaps lowered than on its predecessor. When you look at the whole package—from the photo quality to the image stabilizer to the manual controls—you’ll see that the A710 offers a lot of camera for your $400.”

Luminous Landscape contributor Alain Briot has a very interesting new article called “Of Cameras and Art” - well worth reading…

“I hear it regularly at art shows: “Your photographs are beautiful.  You must have a very good camera.”  I also hear, “Your colors are beautiful, you must use filters.” And finally I also hear, “Your images are fantastic, you must use Photoshop.”  This statement comes in different variations, but the message is essentially the same: for a certain audience, the reason why my work is beautiful is not due to my artistic skills but to the equipment I use. At first I was dumfounded.  Later on I was insulted.  After talking to other photographers and learning that they received the same comments, I started wondering why people thought this.  I now believe I have an answer.”

KODAK EASYSHARE V610LetsGoDigital have just reviewed the Kodak Easyshare V610, the world’s smallest 10x zoom digital camera.

“The impression we got from the Kodak EasyShare V610 during and after testing is one of mixed feelings. On the one hand the design of the Kodak V610 is solid and the compact housing offers a lot of user friendliness with 10x optical zoom and a fine resolution of 6 Megapixel. On the other hand the feeling stays that Kodak only focussed on the dual lens and did not invest in picture making aspects such as ISO and image stabilisation techniques. The Kodak EasyShare V610 lags behind in this area which makes it the weakest link of the camera.”

Casio EX-Z1000DPReview have reviewed the Casio EX-Z1000 compact digicam, which offers 10 megapixels, 2.8 inch LCD screen, IS0 3200 and an interesting new Zoom Continuous Shutter mode that allows you to compare a wide angle and a telephoto shot in the same display and to take both shots simultaneously.

“The EX-Z1000 was, I must admit, something of a surprise for me; fast and responsive, user-friendly and a real pleasure to use but also capable of surprisingly good results - though only if you stick to ISO 200 or below (and preferably leave it fixed on ISO 50 when the light allows).”

Nikon D200Photo.net have just reviewed the new 10.2 megapixel Nikon D200 digital SLR camera.

“I do not (yet) own a D200 and when I switched back to my F100 after using the borrowed D200 exclusively for a while, I was somewhat surprised that there was no big sigh of relief. Certainly, the viewfinder is better, but not dramatically. The F100, probably because of its film winding mechanism, makes more noise. On assignment, taking pictures in a church, I realised I was at the end of the first roll of film just moments before the priest would bless a sculpture. Had I been working with a digital camera, I might have used a big card with no need to change it, and if changing were required, it can almost certainly be done quicker and more quietly than film.”

Sony A100DCViews have just reviewed the new 10.2 megapixel Sony A100 DSLR camera.

“Exposure was generally good with a nice balance between shadow and highlight detail. We did notice however that from time to time the metering was influenced by a smaller part of an image that was brighter than the rest, which confused the meter and led to under exposure. The effect was comparable to what we found on the Olympus E300 in our tests of February 2005. The effect seemed to manifest itself rather erratically and is clearly visible on the LCD screen, which gives you the opportunity to try again. This problem only occurred when using multi-segment metering mode and was absent with centre-weighted or spot metering.”
