Fujifilm UK Press Release
As the clocks go back this Sunday (01:00 GMT), Fujifilm would like to draw attention to a depressing trend. Just like their human owners, many digital cameras are dreading the absence of daylight and the long winter nights.
With most digital cameras depending on abundant light to take a decent photo, 15 hours of daily darkness mean they can get into trouble early in the evening - relying on a battery-hungry flash, or producing the blurry, shaky results we know so well. Until now…

There’s also Postcard mode that is set to a 3:2 aspect ratio, which is ideal for printing 4×6-inch prints and not having to worry about cropping. Using Manual mode with the ISO set at 50, our outdoor samples were excellent.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the entry-level Fujifilm Finepix A345 digital camera.
“Known for great color and performance, Fujifilm has also carved out a niche for itself by consistently providing good-quality consumer digicams at rock-bottom prices. The latest in their line of bargain-priced cameras is the Fujifilm FinePix A345, a 4.1-megapixel digital camera, and its twin the FinePix A350, sporting 5.2 megapixels. The Fuji A345 carries on the value-leading tradition of Fujifilm digital cameras by offering a 4.1-megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens at a low price, including a good-sized bright LCD monitor, Pict-Bridge support, two-second maximum exposure time and four preset scene modes. As you’d expect, the Fujifilm FinePix A345 trades off a few features and capabilities to achieve its remarkably low cost, but the camera still takes good-looking pictures in daylight conditions, and is simple enough for even rank beginners to enjoy immediately.”

Imaging Resource have published their review of the Canon IXUS 750 digital camera (also known as the Canon PowerShot SD550), which has 7.1 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen and 3x optical zoom lens.
“With the PowerShot SD550 and SD450 Digital ELPH, Canon has once again stood its stylish ELPH digicams on end, packing even more features into the stylish compacts. The 7.12-megapixel SD450 and 5.0-megapixel SD450 have the same shell and specs as the SD500 and SD400 models (which continue to be available), but offer more options. Canon has retained their acclaimed optical viewfinder but matched it with a large 2.5-inch LCD monitor, redesigning the user interface to take advantage of the new screen. Both continue to offer the extremely unusual (and frankly, rather cool) “My Color” modes that allow you to selectively replace any color in your photo with a different one, or to make the image black and white with the exception of a single color. Overall, the SD550 is one of the more appealing subcompact digicams we’ve seen to date.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have published the first online review of the Kodak Easyshare Photo Printer 500.
“I had no problems using the printer with my Sony VAIO laptop with its builtin Bluetooth wireless connectivity and the Kodak Easyshare Software or connected directly with the USB cable. The jury is still out as to whether the Wi-Fi capabilities are all that useful or not. It’s only useable within a hundred feet or so and it’s just as easy to remove the card or plug in a cable to make prints. Maybe in the future when all digicams have Wi-Fi builtin as a standard feature, right now it’s really nothing more than a gimmick that will cost you another $100 to use. And this comes from a self-confessed “gadget freak” with a wireless router and laptop, a cellphone and a van with Onstar.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the 5 megapixel Olympus FE-110 digital camera.
“Image quality is always one of the most important aspects when considering to purchase a digicam, and the FE-110 has got the goods for a camera in this price range. Its 5-megapixel SHQ images are sharp with wonderful color saturation. The white balance and exposure systems are fully automatic and seemed to work well in most lighting. When shooting indoors in mixed lighting conditions the display may show your subject being very “warm”, but once the flash fires and the image is captured you’ll see a much better finished product. Noise levels were surprisingly low in areas of contrast, but I did notice some traces of purple fringing around extremely bright objects in our sample photos.”

TrustedReviews have the first review of the Ricoh Caplio R3, a 5 megapixel compact camera with a 7x optical zoom lens equivalent to 28-200mm and vibration correction of the CCD.
“The initial impression of the R3 is overwhelmingly favourable. It feels very solidly made and looks stylish and contemporary. It is available in either a black or a silver finish. We’ve got the black version in for review and it does look very nice. At 26mm it is not quite super-slim, thanks to the extra space needed for the big zoom lens, but it is by no means a bulky camera. It looks very square at first, but a closer look reveals that it is subtly sculpted, and feels good in the hand.”
