Canon Digital IXUS 700DigitalCameraInfo have just published their review of the Canon Digital IXUS 700 digital camera (also known as the Canon PowerShot SD500 Digital ELPH).

“Canon’s Digital ELPH series aims for style and appeal, so the SD500’s slim profile and attractive silver finish follow suit. The camera is rectangular with a slight curve on the left side (when viewing from the front). This model does depart from the series’ sharp, flat lines with its “Perpetual Curve Design” apparent on the side with the right-hand grip. The surfaces remain fairly flat, as the camera is designed more for portability than shooting comfort. The SD500 is built for slipping in a pocket and taking a few shots at a party – not for two-hour photo shoots on the sideline of a basketball court. Canon engineers developed the curve design to make the camera more comfortable to hold; however, it’s still not sufficient for extended periods of photography. Canon didn’t sacrifice style; the brushed steel color with shiny highlights and attractive design is quite a sexy piece of machinery.”

Canon EOS 350D Digital SLRcreativepro have published a review of the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.

“While the lighter weight is good news, the XT’s smaller size is more of a liability. To make the camera narrower, Canon squished the hand grip closer to the lens barrel, leaving little space for the fingers of your right hand. Any handling of the camera—picking it up, changing lenses, passing it from hand to hand—feels more difficult, less comfortable, and less secure than with the older, larger Rebel, because it’s harder to get your fingers wrapped around the grip. If you regularly shoot in climates cold enough to warrant gloves, take your gloves to the camera store and try shooting with camera before buying.”

Olympus E-300 / Olympus Evolt E-300The Olympus E-300 / Olympus Evolt E-300 is the second digital SLR camera based on the FourThirds System. The Olympus E-300 / Olympus Evolt E-300 is an 8 megapixel DSLR that looks a little unusual - Olympus have replaced the traditional pentaprism with a TTL Optical Porro Finder, which uses a horizontal viewfinder with four mirrors instead of a prism and enables the camera to have a more compact flat profile. The Olympus E-300 / Olympus Evolt E-300 can be used with all of the existing E-system lenses, flashguns and accessories. It also offers built-in dust protection, often a problem for DSLR cameras, via its Supersonic Wave Filter. So is the Olympus E-300 / Olympus Evolt E-300 an attractive proposition in a sector of the market that is becoming increasingly more crowded? Read my review to find out.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ1PCMagazine have reviewed the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LZ1, which has a 6x optical zoom lenses and an Optical Image Stabilizer to combat camera shake.

“This new addition to the Panasonic Lumix series of digital cameras offers some interesting features in a lightweight, relatively compact body. The 4-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ1 is not the sexiest or sleekest model in town, but no one will laugh at you if you pull it out at a party. And at $249.95, it won’t leave you broke, either. Image quality, however, suffers a bit from exposure problems, and flash shots have some jagged edges.”

Epson L-500VPCMagazine have published their review of the 5 megapixel Epson L-500V digital camera.

“The Epson L-500V’s most notable feature is a gorgeous 2.5-inch LCD, into which Epson’s Photo Fine Technology is incorporated. The screen displays 196,608 pixels: 70 percent more than a typical 2.5-inch LCD like the one on the Casio Exilim EX-Z55. The L-500V has no optical viewfinder, but framing our shots using the LCD was accurate and easy, except in very bright sunlight when reflections and glare sometimes made it hard to see. And in very low light, we saw more noise in the display than we had noticed in other LCDs. But under normal conditions, images on the LCD were crisp and bright.”

Canon PowerShot A520PCMagazine have published their review of the 4 megapixel Canon PowerShot A520 digital camera.

“The A520’s body resembles a compressed version of the A85, mostly because Canon opted to make this model run on two double-A batteries instead of four. The only other noticeable differences are that the AF assist lamp on the front has been moved to the opposite side of the optical viewfinder and the microphone has been moved ever so slightly. The LCD is still 1.8 inches (diagonal), but the lens has undergone some changes: It is now an f/2.6 to f/5.5, 5.8- to 23.2-mm (35- to 140-mm, 35-mm equivalent), 4X optical zoom lens. The greater magnification favors the telephoto end a bit, so you may have to back up to get wide-angle shots. Luckily, the camera accepts conversion lenses and filters. The shutter button is no longer tilted forward, as it is on the A85, but this isn’t an ergonomic disaster. And we’re still not crazy about the zoom ring around the shutter button.”

Nikon Coolpix 7900DCResource have jointly reviewed the new 7 megapixel Nikon Coolpix 7900 and 5 megapixel Coolpix 5900, which both have a 2.0-inch LCD screen, new graphical user interface and a 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED lens equivalent to 38-114mm lens in 35mm format.

“The Coolpix 5900 and 7900 are compact but not tiny cameras (wait for the Coolpix S1 if you want that) with sturdy metal frames. They’re easy to hold and operate with one hand, and they can go anywhere that you do. The Coolpix 5900 comes in silver while the 7900 comes in a more “professional looking” black. The Coolpixes offer a large 2.0” LCD that works very well in low light conditions. Photo quality on both cameras is very good, though I would up the sharpness to “high”, since the images are a little soft at the default sharpness setting. The only other image quality issue I noticed is a tiny bit of blurriness in the corners of some of my photos. Camera performance is good in most areas including startup speed, focusing times, and shutter lag. Low light focusing was very good thanks to the cameras’ AF-assist lamps. Battery life was also above average.”

Instead I’m going to sell them to a picture library, and I’m pretty sure they’ll take them. Don’t worry, the sample shots at the end of this review are good, but when you’re looking at them remember that this camera can do even better.
