CameraTown have just reviewed a software program called eFotoXpress.

“eFotoXpress is a software utility for digital camera owners that love to share their pictures with friends or family, but don’t want to spend hours uploading images to a photo sharing site. eFotoXpress makes it simple to select a group of photographs, click once or twice, and have all those images ready to go in an email.  Can a full size image really be compressed to 80kb in size, and if so, what does the final image look like? Read the review to find out.”

Sanyo Xacti Digital Movie C5Unmediated have published a review of the new Sanyo Xacti Digital Movie C5, which has 5 megapixels, 2 inch LCD screen and can record MPEG4 format movies with VGA resolution at 30 frames per second. The Sanyo Xacti Digital Movie C5 replaces the Sanyo Xacti C1 that I have previously reviewed.

“Kenyatta just got his hands on a Sanyo Xacti C5 and I’ve been non-stop bugging him for feedback. The Xacti is a hard-drive based camcorder that’s being used by some in the videoblogging community. I was literally about to order one on eBay, but Kenyatta told me to hold off- giving the camcorder a 3/5 (5/5 = best). So here’s our conversation and Kenyatta’s review of the C5.”

Pentax Optio S50Globetechnology have reviewed the 5 megapixel Pentax Optio S50 compact digital camera. Thanks to Sanj for letting me know.

“As 5MP cameras go, this one is really nothing to write home about. I was amazed at how often, particularly indoors, I ended up with slightly blurry shots. This isn’t helped by the lack of an Auto-Focus assist light. There was no problem recognizing who the subjects were but the details expected from a 5MP, or even a 3MP for that matter, just weren’t there.”

Konica Minolta DiMAGE G600DigiCamReview have just reviewed the 6 megapixel Konica Minolta DiMAGE G600 digital camera.

“The Konica Minolta Dimage G600 has some appealing qualities, most notable is the very good image quality and manual controls this compact 6 megapixel digital camera offers. The camera is compact, stylish, and very responsive - this enables you to capture the moment - instead of missing it. The camera has very good image quality, with especially saturated colours - however the camera is let down by image softness, poor indoor performance, and the limited length videos. The G600 is good value for money for a compact 6 megapixel digital camera. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a compact high resolution digital camera for mainly outdoor use.”

Olympus C-7070 Wide ZoomDIWA member Steves Digicams have today reviewed the new 7 megapixel Olympus C-7070 Wide Zoom, which was announced at the CES show back in January.

“The lens produced sharp results throughout the zoom range except when stopped down to its smallest aperture, F11, where it was noticeably soft. It had noticeable barrel distortion at full wide angle, but no detectable pin cushioning at telephoto. There was a slight amount of chromatic aberration (purple fringing) in high-contrast areas at all focal lengths in normal exposures, but overexposure will intensify CA. The lens offers two macro settings, Macro and Super Macro; Super Macro allows you to focus as close as one inch, nearly filling the frame with an object the size of a dime!”

Canon EOS 350D Digital SLRDPReview have published their review of the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.

“So it’s clear, the EOS 350D is a great successor to the EOS 300D, it puts right many user complaints, it delivers a smaller and lighter camera which feels better put together and delivers an increase in resolution. Image quality is just as good as the more expensive EOS 20D, if you can live with the differences between the two the money saved could buy you a very nice lens. The upgrade decision for existing EOS 300D owners is definitely more difficult, the increase in resolution from six to eight megapixels really isn’t that significant but some of the new features, improved performance and reduction size and weight are.”

Nikon D2XDigital Outback Photo have started a diary-like review of the new 12 megapixel Nikon D2X digital SLR.

“We won’t spend a lot of time discussing the body as it is virtually a slightly modified D2H (see our D2H review). We liked the D2H body a lot. Here are just a few new and revisited observations:

  * Viewfinder is slightly smaller than the full frame 1Ds2 but also brighter. Very good overall.
  * Nice new RGB channel histograms on the marvelous large LCD
  * Mirror lockup does not require a menu change
  * Battery life is known to be excellent”

Olympus C-7070 Wide ZoomCNET have today reviewed the new 7 megapixel Olympus C-7070 Wide Zoom, which was announced at the CES show back in January.

” Although it shares a 7-megapixel sensor and key features with its stablemate, the C-7000, the Olympus C-7070 Wide Zoom is an entirely different beast. With an expansive 27mm-to-110mm zoom (35mm-camera equivalent), full manual controls, support for both xD and CompactFlash cards, and a macro mode good down to 1 inch, this looks like a photo enthusiast’s compact alternative to a digital SLR or an electronic-viewfinder-equipped camera. However, though priced in the same neighborhood as its dSLR and EVF competition, it offers only an optical viewfinder and a color LCD.”

Antonio M. RosarioThe 49th PhotographyBLOG Portfolio has been submitted by Antonio M. Rosario.

“All of these photographs were taken exclusively for my photo blog which I try to maintain on a regular basis. I love street shooting here in New York City and using digital cameras has made the experience even more fulfilling. I like shooting discreetly because I believe that doing so helps to capture a person’s true self. Once someone becomes aware of the camera, there is a subtle but noticeable shift in their being; they begin to pose, even if they are not conscious about it. One of the great things about being a city dweller is the anonymity we have and the ability to be one amongst millions. I like to try to focus on the one person in a million; it’s like having the city all to oneself. This is what I try to accomplish with my street shooting and with my photo blog.”

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20DIWA member Steves Digicams have just posted their review of the new 5 megapixel Konica Minolta Z5 digital camera.

“The image quality when using its 2560x1920 Fine mode was average for a camera in this class. Outdoors it produced nicely saturated images that showed proper exposure in most cases; only under extreme sunlight did it tend to over-expose the image. I did notice an average amount of noise in low contrast areas as well as CA (chromatic aberration - purple fringing) in high contrast areas, especially when using its Auto ISO setting. There were also some images that were a bit soft; there are adjustments for both sharpening and contrast that help fix the problem. Both our outdoor and indoor portraits were sharp, well exposed and skin tones were very natural.”

Concord 6340zDIWA member Steves Digicams have cast their critical eye over the new 6 megapixel Concord 6340z digital camera.

“Its 37-111mm (35mm-equivalent) zoom lens produced below-average results in our testing; very few of our test shots could be considered sharp. The quality one would expect from a 6-megapixel imager was not realized because of the marginal lens quality. That said, the 3x zoom lens does offer versatility in composing your shots, with its moderate wide angle being useful for interior shots and landscapes, while the telephoto range will bring your distant subjects closer. We notice average amount of barrel distortion at full wide angle, with slight pincushioning at full telephoto.”

FujiFilm FinePix S3 ProePhotoZine have just posted their review of the Fuji FinePix S3 Pro digital SLR.

“When first picking up the camera I was unsure if it would be comfortable to handle, due to the vertical grip. But my fears were soon displaced; the ergonomic grip is very comfortable. The actual grip on the camera is chunkier than the S2, giving a firmer handle to the camera. It is easy to hold for extended periods due to the thought given by Fuji to the camera grip. Apart from the grip, the top controls of the camera are similar in layout and use to those on the S2, I found it very easy to switch from one to the other. The rear layout has been altered slightly, but functionality is the same, apart from additional few functions, such as the film simulation modes.”
