Imaging Resource have posted their first impressions of the 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 digital camera.
“In the case of the Sony P200, we found that it had plenty of resolution to make sharp-looking 13x19 prints, even with a little cropping. At the largest sizes, the loss of subtle detail caused by its anti-noise processing was visible in Marti’s hair and features, but we suspect that most consumers would find the resulting prints acceptable nonetheless. Subjects with strongly contrasting detail (things like tree branches against the sky) showed no loss of resolution, producing very sharp images even at 13x19. Looking at the high-ISO shots, images from the P200 captured at ISO 400 looked a little rough when printed at 8x10, but we felt that they were acceptable when examined at normal viewing distances. (10-12 inches or so) The ISO 400 image noise was essentially invisible in prints 5x7 and smaller. Color-wise, the P200’s images looked absolutely beautiful when printed on the i9900, lush and vibrant, yet very natural-looking.”

CameraTown have reviewed the Canon PIXMA MP760 Multifunction Photo Centre, a new multifunctional printer which includes a Film Adapter Unit for 35mm film scanning, plus a a 2.5 inch colour LCD screen.
“If it’s not apparent, the Canon PIMXA MP760 has quickly become a favorite of mine. I would love to see an 13"x19” version since I often make large prints, but I realize that many of you don’t have this need. If you are considering upgrading your current printer, you should give the PIXMA MP760 strong consideration. Yes, at $299 (MSRP), it costs more than today’s bargain printers, but the speed and quality at which it prints, the convenience that it offers, the individual ink cartridges, and the features that you’ll find yourself using more often than you think are worth the extra money.”

Luminous Landscape have published their review of the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.
“Let me put this as delicately as possible. The viewfinder of the 350XT is small. How small? Very small. It is one of the smallest viewfinders that I’ve ever seen. As Mike Johnston put it in a recent column, when talking about the small viewfinders that we are seeing in the latest generation of reduced frame and reduced cost DSLRs, it’s like looking at a postage stamp at the end of a tunnel. Having said that, it’s still better than any electronic viewfinder that I’ve ever seen. These are like looking at a fuzzy TV at the end of a long tunnel. “

Imaging Resource have reviewed the Olympus Mju 410 Digital camera. The Mju 410 is encased in a full metal body with a silver finish, offers 4 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom. The Mju 410 is the first Mju Digital model to feature TruePic Turbo, a new image processor which sharpens image clarity, contrast and colour for life-like results.
“The Olympus Stylus film cameras are currently among the best selling point-and-shoot models available, widely popular across a range of consumer experience levels. Besides its user-friendly interface, compact design and good picture quality, its excellent (and unusual) water sealing makes the Stylus 410 an appealing choice for a “take anywhere” camera. Battery life is excellent as well, and its color is very appealing. We’d be very enthusiastic about the camera were it not for what appears to be very aggressive anti-noise processing that drastically cuts image detail in areas of low subject contrast. Even in 4x6 prints, the effect is quite noticeable, and really makes it hard for us to recommend this model. To our minds, a much better choice for the money is the excellent little Olympus Stylus Verve. The Verve shares the Stylus 410’s water-resistance, to our eye has better build quality (and a very stylish case), and snaps very sharp, colorful pictures, all for only a few dollars more than the Stylus 410 model at retail.”

DPReview have just posted their review of the Fuji FinePix S3 Pro digital SLR.
“The S3 Pro’s unique selling feature, its extended dynamic range, really does exist and does work. We measured up to 10 stops of dynamic range in the camera’s “Wide 2” mode, however it’s seldom that this would be obvious in everyday shots. The reason for this is that in wide dynamic range mode you get the gain only in the highlights, it would have made sense to instead have the option of a completely different tone curve and expose for shadows to spread the additional dynamic range across the tonal scale rather than just in highlights (we often don’t mind clipped highlights as long as the roll-off is smooth).””

“When it comes to the design, you’ll either love it or hate it. The S5500 looks a lot bigger in publicity photos than it does in real life. When you get it out of the box, the first impression is just how tiny the thing is. It looks like a camera version of those Micro Machine toy cars that were popular a few years ago, as though full-size features like the handgrip and lens had somehow been grafted onto a half-scale model of an SLR. However once you get over the initial fit of giggles and actually pick the thing up you’ll discover that it feels a lot bigger than it looks.”

First announced in August 2004, the S3500 is now available at a street price of under £200 / $250. Almost one year ago I reviewed the 3 megapixel successor to the S3500, the S3000, which was intuitive to use but suffered badly from only having one slow ISO speed (100) and slightly muted images. Have Fujifilm added enough extra features to make the S3500 a more capable camera and also still remain competitive in the fast-moving digital camera market? Read my review to find out.
