DigCamReview.co.uk have just published their review of the Sony Cybershot DSC U40, a stylish 2-megapixel digicam available in four colors (silver, black, dark blue and red), which costs around $200/£100.
“The Sony Cybershot U40 is an ultra compact 2 megapixel digital camera with a small 1” colour screen. The camera generates good pictures, with good colour, although images are a bit soft. The camera can also record unlimited videos without sound. The camera has a quick switch on time, and a quick shot to shot time. For around £90/£99 (UK) this camera offers fairly good value for money, especially for such a small, “take anywhere” digital camera. If you want an easy to use, ultra compact digital camera that produces decent 2 megapixel images on a budget, then this is well worth considering. Bottom line: images aren’t brilliant, and there is no optical zoom, but for a fun ultra compact digital camera that you can take anywhere, this fits the bill, recommended.”

ByteSector have just reviewed the new HP Photosmart 375 compact photo printer.
“With its folded up backsides, and small dimensions, the 375 looks like a toaster designed by Apple. Its lines are very smooth, it has a clean look and it looks inviting. The tilt-up screen is a great addition, and it tilts up far enough for you to be able to operate the printer while sitting in front of it, not above it. When they pop out, the back panel becomes a tray that holds up to 20 photo blanks, and the front panel reveals slots for every kind of memory card, and a tray for printed photos. The Photosmart 375 is a clean, good looking printer that doesn?t let form get in the way of function.”

The technology website I4U have posted a short review of the 5 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T3 (found via DigiCamReview.co.uk).
“I already liked the DSC-T1. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T3 is definitely better. Sony introduced small but valuable improvements that look like they listened to Consumers and their experience with the DSC-T1. With 17.3mm and 5MP and Zeiss optics the Sony DSC-T series is still a winner. With the T3 it just got better. Even the picture quality improved with warmer more pleasant colors. It is quite disappointing that Sony decided not to launch the DSC-T3 officially in the USA.”

Imaging Resource have posted their first impressions of the new Konica Minolta 7D DSLR.
“Feeling about as heavy as it looks, the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D is a handful. The grip is nicely shaped with a rubbery finish, but it doesn’t quite go deep enough. To get a good purchase on it, you have to press your fingertips into the body. The problem isn’t really the grip, though. The length from front to back is just about right for most palms. The body is just very thick and takes up much of the finger space. Otherwise, Konica Minolta has made a nice looking, quality digital camera with a magnesium underbody. All body panels fit tightly and the feel is extremely solid.”

Imaging Resource have published their review of the 7 megapixel Olympus C-70 Zoom (called the Olympus C-7000 Zoom in the USA).
“With full-autofocus shutter lag times of 0.53-0.54 second and prefocus lag of only 0.157 second, the C-7000’ is a good bit more responsive to the shutter button than are most cameras I test. Cycle times are good if not amazing, at roughly two seconds per frame, for up to four shots. Continuous-mode speed is excellent, at 0.38 second/frame or 2.6 frames/second in continuous-high mode, but the only for bursts of two shots at a time.”

Luminous Landscape have posted their review of the Epson RD-1 digital rangefinder camera.
“Epson’s decision to produce this unique camera was a bold one and they deserve much praise for bringing it to production. In most important respects, the R-D1 functions as the digital rangefinder that many of us have been waiting years for. Its primary flaws are that it needs a much larger RAW buffer and a histogram review mode. It also may have problems with vignetting using very short lenses but I’ll need to wait until I’m able to test it with various super wide-angle lenses to draw any conclusions. Finally, many people have complained about rangefinder focus problems with the R-D1 using certain lenses and the cause of these problems is undetermined. I did not have focus problems with the example of the R-D1 I tested using the lenses I’ve tested so far.”

The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X50 fits into the ultra-compact family of digital cameras, being about the same size as a credit card at just 8cms by 6cms and weighing 125g. Despite its diminutive dimensions, Konica Minolta have still managed to include both a 5 megapixel CCD sensor and a large 2 inch LCD screen. In addition, the Konica Minolta DiMAGE X50 has a start-up time of around 1/2 second, a sliding lens cover and a stylish brushed-effect body. So is the Konica Minolta DiMAGE X50 the ultimate, carry-with-you-everywhere digital camera? Or does it add up to less than the sum of its tiny parts? Read my extensive review to find out.
