San Francisco, CA, Oct. 26, 2004 - SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) announced today that it is doubling the current maximum capacities of its popular SanDisk miniSD and SanDisk RS-MMC cards to 512 megabytes (MB). These storage cards are used in a growing number of mobile phones with multimedia capabilities such as digital cameras, music players and video recording and playback. The announcement was made at the CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2004 trade show at Moscone Center where SanDisk is demonstrating products in Booth 924.

DigitalCameraInfo.com have just reviewed the 4 megapixel Sony DSC-P41.
“The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P41 is one of the more economically priced Cyber-shot models, retailing for around US $179.95. Containing a surprisingly large 1/2.7 inch, 4MP CCD, this model is armed to surpass most similarly priced models with higher image quality. However, this camera is only capable of 3x digital zoom, with absolutely no optical zoom capability. With limited custom control settings available, the Cyber-shot P41 is clearly made for the point-and-shoot consumer.”

Roger Cavanagh has reviewed a plugin for Photoshop CS and PhotoShop Elements 3(Windows-only I’m afraid) that aims to brighten up the shadows in your images without causing too many unwanted side-effects.
“Unlike Photoshop Shadow and Highlight Adjustment, SI will only work on 8-bit RGB images. It is also very slow, which given what the manual says, is understandable:
“From the original image the software estimates the illumination field that illuminated the scene when the picture was taken. Then it corrects every pixel to produce a result that would have been seen if the scene were more uniformly illuminated. “
Not the most elegant or grammatical of phrasing, but it does describe what the plug-in does, and it does indicate that bigger files and more pixels means slower performance. The FAQ page does suggest users could experience memory problems, but all my tests have so far been on full-size 10D images, which have been processed successfully.”

PCMagazine have just reviewed the Konica Minolta DiMAGE X31, a stylish new 3.2-megapixel compact digicam that is easy-to-use and affordable.
“Our test shots were decent but not impressive. Daylight photos tended to be a bit dark and a little soft around the edges, with some graininess in the shadows. The images did show good whites and highlights and well-reproduced colors (if a little warm). Our flash shots, though well illuminated, were slightly red and suffered from noise and fuzziness. Close-up shots, as near as 4 inches from the subject, were particularly good.”

Novoflex Press Release
Would you like to double the data volume of your digital photos? No problem if you have PROSHIFT+, another bright idea from the accessory specialist Novoflex.
PROSHIFT+ doubles the data volume on all digital SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses. With the Canon EOS 20 D, for instance, you get up to 20 megapixels; with the CANON EOS D60 or 10 D models, 16 megapixels…and equivalent gains with other similarly adaptable cameras.
Fitted to a Novoflex bellows, the Novoflex PROSHIFT+ is used to take 2 or 3 individual shots using parallel shift and multiple exposures. These partial images are then merged automatically to a complete image using an appropriate program (Canon Photo Stitch, Photoshop CS Photomerge, etc.). Photomerge has an advantage here because it supports fine corrections of the individual images at separate levels.
The image or file size, and thus the print quality is increased 2x to 2.4x, depending on the sensor size. This also applies to future cameras with 8, 10 and 12 megapixels!

Steves Digicams have reviewed the 5 megapixel Pentax Optio S5i.
“Ergonomics were average. It seems Pentax has not heard our cries about the Power button on past “S” series models. With the camera being so small, I found myself turning it Off when trying to snap a picture. This was very aggravating. Another issue was the left and right “Custom Function” buttons. Though they can be very useful, there needs to be an off setting when you are not planing on using them. I found myself accidently changing exposure compensation countless times.”
