DCViews have reviewed the new HP Photosmart R707, a stylish 5 megapixel digital camera.
“The f2.8 - f4.9 three times optical zoom lens on the Photosmart R707 covers a range of 39 to 117mm in 35mm terms. Images taken with the camera appear clear and bright. There is only little barrel distortion at wide angle, which completely disappears once you zoom in to tele settings. The wide angle setting of 39mm is not really a true wide angle, so reducing distortion should be easier than with say, manufacturing a 27mm lens as featured on some other digital cameras. There is no vignetting in the corners although some chromatic aberration is visible in high contrast situations.”

CNET have posted their review of the 8-megapixel Sony DSC-F828 digital camera.
“With great ergonomics, a feature set made for all but the most advanced amateur photographers, and performance that lets it pull ahead of many of its competitors, this model makes a strong first impression. But a closer look reveals a few flaws that you should know about before you fall for the distinctively designed DSC-F828.”

CNET have just reviewed the 8-megapixel Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom digital camera.
“Olympus’s 8-megapixel enthusiast camera, the C-8080 Wide Zoom, delivers an incredibly broad feature set and some first-rate photos. But many users will find it difficult to efficiently manage all of its various features, and photographers who wish to shoot RAW files will likely consider it uncomfortably slow.”

A-Digital-Eye have reviewed the 8-colour Canon i9900 printer, which can create a 13 x 19-inch borderless photograph in under three minutes and has a maximum resolution of 4800 x 2400 dpi. The printer is available now for a suggested list price of $499.
“Canon raises the bar for creating a printer with 2 picoliter, 6,144 nozzles, and an eight-color print system. With the addition of red and green ink, this allows the i9900 photo printer to create prints with an increased color gamut and more true-to-life colors. The large format output that the Canon i9900 Photo Printer creates is striking. The glossy prints that the i9900 outputs are truly indistinguishable from lab prints. Now you have the flexibility to create your masterpieces at home at a price that is hard to beat at $499.”

LetsGoDigital have just posted their full review of the Sanyo Xacti VPC-C1, a new hybrid digital still/video camera that certainly looks very stylish.
“The camera is compact and light-weighted and fits perfectly in ones trousers or breast pocket. The camera is standard delivered with a beautiful docking station and Sanyo is one of the very few manufacturers that was thoughtful enough to supply the camera standard with a 128MB Secure Digital memory card. Whether this is found back in the price tag can be read further down in this review.”

In an interview on TheStar.com, Dell’s chief executive officer, Kevin Rollins, has targeted HP and specifically the high cost of inkjet printer ink. An aggressive strategy from Dell could mean a price reduction for printer ink in general, which is considered to be more expensive than champagne!
“Just one year into the printer business, Dell has developed an ambitious long-term strategy to lower the price of ink.
“It’s going to take a little while,” Rollins admits. “We have to get an installed base of ink-jet printers and laser printers. Then we can start to impact the price of consumables.”
In the interim, Dell has introduced a new line of high-volume ink cartridges that hold more ink. “Basically, you get some economies of scale when you buy more.”

Adobe have released a new free plug-in for Adobe Photoshop CS.
The Adjusted Refresh plug-in addresses the time it takes to visually preview some filter updates in Adobe Photoshop CS. This plug-in reduces the size of the Photoshop image tiles. This causes the display to redraw in smaller pieces, reducing the time it takes to see the updated preview. The Adjusted Refresh plug-in will also reduce the initial scratch disk usage after you launch Photoshop. Note that overall performance may be reduced for users with multiple processors or more than 1 gigabyte of RAM.

Roger Cavanagh has published a great article by CJ Morgan simply called “On Composition”, which discusses 5 techniques that can be used to improve your photographs:
“Let me suggest five different ways to both strengthen our photographic observational skills and improve our image making. These are: “kill the clutter”, “think graphic design”, “dark on light and light on dark”, “be mindful of relationships” and “shoot not objects, but rather appearances”.”

Imaging Resource have just reviewed the new 5 megapixel Sony DSC-P100 digital camera.
“With its small size and well-rounded feature set, the Sony P100 is a good and unusually capable subcompact point-and-shoot digicam. Housed in a very small package is a 5.0-megapixel CCD, a sharp, high-quality 3x optical zoom lens, nine preset Scene modes and a host of other creative options. Its pictures show excellent color and sharpness (although I’d like to see better handling of household incandescent lighting), and surprisingly low noise levels for its combination of a five-megapixel sensor and compact camera design.”

DCResource have today reviewed the new 6 megapixel Kodak Easyshare DX7630.
“There’s a whole lot to like about the Kodak EasyShare DX7630, and a couple of things not to like, as well. Kodak is undoubtedly playing the Megapixel game here, selling a camera with way more resolution than the typical consumer needs. While the 6 Megapixel CCD will produce HUGE prints and is helpful when cropping images, it really is overkill.”
