Kodak DCS Pro SLR/nDphoto.us have just reviewed the recently announced 14 megapixel Kodak DCS Pro SLR/n.

“The autofocus system in continuous mode was adequate enough to catch some of the action of kids playing in the park. Although adequate, you don’t get the tracking speed of a Canon 1DS or 1D. An object coming towards you rapidly is an example of a situation that migh cause the autofocus system difficulties. There is also somewhat of a shutter lag compared to other professional bodies. Although not huge, it is there none the less. Keeping in mind the target market for this camera, it is very acceptable.”

This is currently a Mac/Linux only quad tone driver for the Epson 2200/7500/7600/9600 printers. Digital Outback Photo seem to love it, concluding “Excellent! We think you are mainly limited by your own B/W photos and style you like. Wonderful tool for all Mac users (we did not test the Linux version) at a bargain price.”

Jamie Harrison, Technical Editor of the magazine What Digital Camera, has just started a new blog. Jamie explains that “the idea is to encourage our readers to set up blogs, and develop a sense of community. It will give both the editorial team and other readers the chance to see how readers are using their cameras, as well as providing an impetus to take more pictures.” Cliff Smith of the sister magazine Better Digital Photography has also posted a site. Creating your own blog is one of the ideas in my recent “Beating the Photography Blues” article. So now is as good a time as ever to start sharing your photos.

Fuji FinePix S3000 ZoomThe Fuji FinePix S3000 Zoom is a very stylish and affordable update of the FinePix S304 Zoom. It has a 3 megapixel sensor, like most other digital cameras at the entry-level end of the market, but it stands out from the crowd due to its 6x optical zoom, which is equivalent to 38?228mm on a 35mm camera. The Fuji FinePix S3000 Zoom has significantly fallen in price since its launch in August 2003 and can now be purchased for under ?200 / $250. But is it the right budget digicam for you? Read my review to find out.

In this week’s Sunday Morning Photographer column Mike Johnston looks at a picture which you are not intended to see…

“It’s not for me to tell you what to feel about this picture. You might interpret it as an anti-war photograph. You might interpret it as a paean to patriotism and noble sacrifice in the service of the republic. You might feel sadness and loss. You might feel anger. It’s up to you. I merely think it should be up to you - that government censorship is un-American, and bad for democracy.”

Canon EOS 1D Mark IISteves Digicamshave posted a first look at the new 8 megapixel professional DSLR from Canon, the EOS 1D Mark II, complete with sample images.

“As of the time of this review, the Canon EOS-1D Mark II is the world’s fastest pro-digital SLR camera. It combines a new 8.2 million pixel CMOS sensor with Canon’s DIGIC II imaging engine and captures eight-megapixel JPEG images at 8.5fps in continuous bursts of up to 40 frames and RAW images up to 20 frames. Canon took their popular 4.1 megapixel EOS-1D and doubled the resolution of the imaging sensor, doubled the size of the high speed buffer memory and reevaluated, redesigned and in some cases, actually reinvented the technology that makes the new Mark II camera the most reliable and responsive professional digital SLR on the market.”

Olympus C-765 Ultra ZoomSteves Digicams have reviewed the new Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom digital camera.

“The overall image quality in SHQ 2288x1712 is very good. One thing I noticed was that the amount of chromatic aberration (purple fringing of objects with strong highlights) has been significantly reduced when compared to other “C” series cameras and most other manufacturer’s 10-12X super zoom digicams. The vast majority of the shots that I took were properly exposed, well saturated and the white balance was on the money.”
