LensDistortions.com has released a new collection of presets for Photoshop. The website launched in early 2013 with products for filmmakers, editors, and VFX artists. Word quickly spread as people in the video community fell in love with the organic flares and unique looks. A sea view photography competition, run by the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society, is still on the hunt for the UK’s ultimate sea view. Having already seen a wave of entries, the competition, which is in its second year, will be judged by a panel of experts:  Matt Havercroft, editor of Discover Britain Magazine, Kate Westaway, a marine photographer and TV producer and Commodore Malcolm Williams, the Charity’s chief executive. The prize, donated by P&O Ferries, will be a five-day return crossing on their Dover to Calais route for a car or caravan and up to nine passengers. The trip can be booked any time between now and June 2015 and it comes in a celebration envelope. The deadline for entry is 5pm on 8th August.

Adobe's new Photography Plan enables anyone to use the most up-to-date desktop versions of both Lightroom and Photoshop CC for as little as £8.78/$9.99 per month, which is an excellent deal for most people, especially those just getting involved in serious photo editing. But Adobe's move to a subscription-based model raised the question of what would happen to users' Lightroom catalogues once their Creative Cloud (CC) membership expired. In a recent blog post, Adobe's Tom Hogarty responded to these concerns, stating that "at the end of a membership, the desktop application will continue to launch and provide access to the photographs managed within Lightroom as well as the Slideshow, Web, Book or Print creations that we know many photographers painstakingly create. The Develop and Map modules have been disabled in order to signal the end of the membership and the need to renew in order to receive Adobe’s continuous innovation in those areas. Access to Lightroom mobile workflows will also cease to function."

DxO Labs have launched DxO FilmPack v4.5.2 and DxO ViewPoint v2.1.7. These two upgrades allow both applications to integrate perfectly with Adobe Photoshop CC 2014. The upgrade to DxO FilmPack v4.5.2 is free for all owners of DxO FilmPack 4, as well as for photographers who acquired a DxO FilmPack license on or after 1 March 2013. The upgrade to DxO ViewPoint v2.1.7 is free for all owners of DxO ViewPoint who acquired a license on or after 1 August 2013.

DxO Labs have released DxO Optics Pro v9.5.1 for Mac and Windows. This update adds support for the new Sony Alpha A7S (Elite Edition only - pictured) and for four other cameras: the Sony DSC-RX100 III and SLT-A77 II, the Nikon 1 J4, and the Samsung NX30. Newcastle-based pro lab Digitalab is set to stage a unique six week exhibition of latest work from multi-award-winning Tim Wallace. The lab will display around thirty images shot by Wallace using just one Fujifilm X-Pro1 camera and one 14mm lens in Darwin, an abandoned ‘ghost town’ in the hostile Death Valley desert.: “The sheer scale and beauty of the Death Valley wilderness has always held a fascination for me and the idea of a photographic expedition to an abandoned town in its very heart was irresistible," Tim Wallacce says.
