The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) invites student, amateur and professional photographers worldwide to submit their work to the 157th RPS International Competition. The Royal Photographic Society’s annual International Print Exhibition is the longest standing exhibition of its kind in the world, dating back to 1854. During its long history it has gained a reputation for showcasing a wide range of genres and styles of photography. Now in its 157th year, entry is open to everyone of any age or photographic level.. Initial entry is online, and you can submit up to 4 digital images before 18 March 2014. The selectors will make a shortlist from all uploaded entries and the shortlisted photographers will then supply prints for the final selection of 100 prints for the touring exhibition, including the Gold, Silver, Bronze and Under 30 Award winners.

The 2014 Kolor Panobook Contest, a major panoramic photography competition, is about to open. The entry period will begin on 3rd February, and photographers have until 3rd March 2014 to submit their best panoramic images to the competition. As in the previous years, the best entries will be published in a photobook called the Kolor Panobook 2014. For more information and to enter, visit the website below.

Really Nice Images have released a new generation of its photographic film-emulating preset package 'All Films' for Adobe Lightroom users. "'All Films' is our best preset package ever," the developers say. "It is comprehensive. It contains a great diversity of film looks from negative films to Polaroids and slide films." The presets can be purchased and downloaded from the website below.

Nikon will be exhibiting its new flagship digital SLR camera, the Nikon D4S, for the first time in the UK at The Photography Show from 1st – 4th March 2014 at the NEC in Birmingham. The company has invested in an interactive stand that will host the complete camera line-up, including the new Nikon Df, D3300 and the latest Coolpix cameras, as well as its range of lenses. The D4S will also be on display at the show before it officially goes on sale, following a development announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year.

Afghanistan: On the Bounce is a new title featuring photographs by Robert Cunningham. "Through glossy photos, pull-out literature, and writings by Steven Hartov, readers start from the outset of servicemembers’ deployment and finish not only with the servicemembers’ heartfelt return, but with a deeper understanding of their experience in Afghanistan," the publisher says. Cunningham took 55,000 photographs over his time as an embedded photographer, and the book features the very best of his work. The 162-page volume is available now, priced at $40.

Eye-Fi is offering all Eye-Fi Mobi users a sneak peek of its new mobile apps and cloud service. Users can preview the new applications and services for iOS, Android or Kindle devices through Eye-fi Labs, a customer engagement platform that permits Eye-Fi to directly engage consumers and partners as part of a product development process. “The new capabilities we are previewing are a natural extension of the current Eye-Fi Mobi card and mobile apps and provide a unique and compelling way to link digital cameras with the power of the cloud,” said Sam Hui, VP of product management of Eye-Fi.  “We will work closely with customers to gain insights that we will use to refine the products with the goal of delivering a delightful end-to-end experience when the products are generally available.”

The new Zeiss Touit 2.8/50M is a macro lens with a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:1. Designed for compact system cameras with APS-C sized imagers, the Zeiss Touit 2.8/50M is equivalent to a 75mm lens in a 35mm system. The optical formula comprises 14 elements arranged in 11 groups and an iris diaphragm with nine rounded blades. The Touit 2.8/50M with Sony E and Fuji X mount will be available worldwide in March 2014. The recommended retail price is €755/$999.

Ricoh hasupdated the apps for the Ricoh Theta spherical image camera to allow users to post spherical images to Google Maps and Google+. Made possible through a collaboration between Ricoh  and Google, the Theta apps are now compatible with Photo Sphere XMP, Google's panoramic image standard. Users can also make use of the Constellations feature, which enables them to connect spherical images to make an original Street View. Olympus Japan has announced a special OM-D E-M5 Black Elite Pro Lens Kit. Comprising an Olympus OM-D E-M5 camera body and M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens, this Japan-only special edition features a leather-like finish on the outside of the body including the right-hand grip, plus redesigned main and sub command dials. This Black Elite edition comes with Firmware Version 2.0 as standard. Availability is slated for March.

SmugMug Films have launched their second video in the series, Jessica Ambats – Capturing the Beauty of Flight. Jessica Ambats is an air-to-air photographer (meaning she takes photos of planes from planes) and instrument-rated pilot based in Santa Monica.  Her images capture not only modern and historical planes performing feats thousands of feet above our heads, often close enough to capture the exhilarated expression of the pilot on board, but also the gorgeous scenery below. The Olympus OM-D E-M10 compact system camera combines the image quality, classic styling and focusing speed of the E-M5 with the sheer power of the flagship E-M1 in an extremely compact all-metal casing.
