The Sony NEX-5T is a new compact system camera with a 16.1-megapixel APS-C sensor and Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC (Near Field Communication). There’s no set-up needed – simply touch a compatible mobile device against the NEX-5T and a wireless connection is made instantly. An embedded Smart Remote Control lets you trigger shutter release from your smartphone: Other highlights include a hybrid auto focus system that combines phase-detection AF to track fast-moving subjects with contrast-detection AF for absolute precision, Full HD video recording, a tiltable LCD screen that flips up to 180° for a comfortable view with the camera held at arm’s length, and compatibility with a growing range of Sony Play Memories Camera Apps. The Sony A3000 is a budget-friendly 20.1-megapixel compact system camera with a 201,600-dot electronic viewfinder, an ergonomic hand-grip  and an APS-C sized Exmor CMOS sensor. Compatible with the manufacturer's E mount lenses, the Sony A3000 weighs in at 411 grams including a battery, and features a Multi Interface Shoe that allows you to attach various accessories such as a powerful system flash, a video IR light or an external microphone. In addition to capturing 20-megapixel stills, the Sony A3000 is also capable of recording Full HD videos, with a choice of 50i or 25p shooting modes. The Sony A3000 is available to pre-order from the website below, with shipments expected to commence in September. The camera is priced at £370/$400.

The Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS is the first ever G lens that has been created specifically for the manufacturer's E-mount cameras and interchangeable-lens camcorders. Offering a 35mm equivalent focal range of 27-157.5mm, the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS power zoom boasts an optical image stabiliser and 16 lens elements in 12 groups, including two ED glass elements and three aspherical lens elements. Equipped with an iris diaphragm with seven rounded blades, the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS maintains a maximum aperture of f/4 throughout its entire zoom range. Weighing in at 427 grams, the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS takes 72mm filters, and offers a close-focus point of 45cm. Availability is slated for October in the UK and December in the US. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS is a new, optically stabilised, 24-105mm equivalent standard zoom for Sony's E-mount compact system cameras and camcorders, including all NEX series models as well as the new, "SLR-styled" Sony A3000. The optical formula comprises 16 lens elements in 12 groups, with an iris diaphragm featuring 7 rounded aperture blades. Weighing in at 308 grams, the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS takes 55mm filters, and offers a 0.23x magnification and a minimum focus distance of 35cm. The new Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS len will be available in the fall of 2013, priced at around £840/$1000.

In addition to the new 16-70mm f/4 and 18-105mm f/4 zoom lenses, Sony has announced that its E 50mm f/1.8 OSS portrait prime will now be available in black, in addition to the existing silver version. "This bright, wide-aperture prime lens is ideal for capturing atmospheric handheld portraits with flattering background defocus (bokeh)," the company says. "Optical SteadyShot cuts the effects of camera shake for crisp, blur-free images when you’re relying on available light. Smooth, quiet autofocus is less likely to disturb your subject – whether you’re shooting stills or Full HD video." The Sony E 50mm f/1.8 Black Edition will be available in fall 2013, priced at around $300.

LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, have released a new hotshoe-to-miniphone cable (HSFM3). This three-foot cable, which has a basic (non-TTL) hot shoe on one end and a mono miniphone connector on the other, allows photographers to slide any speedlight style flash into the shoe to avoid using the sometimes unreliable or missing PC port.  The miniphone end plugs into either a Plus radio (PlusX, Plus III, Plus II or Plus Receivers), MultiMAX Transceiver or FlexTT5 Transceiver. Other features of the new HSFM3 include a ¼-20 socket below the hot shoe, gold plated contacts and robust design to ensure reliability.  The HSFM3 is available now at an estimated retail price of $40. Also available is the new locking PC to miniphone adapter (MPCF-L, $15), which allows users to convert any cord with a PC connection into a miniphone connection.

Nikon has issued firmware updates for a number of its Coolpix digital compact cameras. Firmware version 1.1 for the Nikon Coolpix L28, S3400, S3500, S4400 and S6400, version 1.2 for the Nikon Coolpix S4300 and version 1.3 for the Coolpix S9300 all fix a bug that, in some rare cases, prevented the camera from turning on, or prevented operation. Firmware version 1.1 for the Coolpix S5200 and S6500 (pictured) additionally improve the functionality of the Wireless Camera Utility.
